Hello,

I've creeped this site but this is my first post.
My wife and I looked for a house with a decent sized garage and being unable to find the one we wanted (after viewing no fewer than 75) we found a new build and the company was going to build us a garage.

After some negotiations we got a 26x30 garage.
The details:
  • 9 foot walls
  • 16x8 garage door
  • sub pannel in garage
  • gas line ran out to the garage
  • basic electrial with 220v plug

I have projects that I want to do in this garage and I also want to park in it so that was why we needed something so large.
I have a couple motorcycle projects and I foresee a possible car project one day. I am young and have never had the space to work on stuff so I am excited to outfit this garage to my liking.

First thing to be done was adding more electrical.
I added in 12 more plugs inside for a total of 15.
Also added in more lights because they only gave me two (lolz).

Next up will be insulation (spray foam maybe?).
Then adding osb sheets to the walls and roof.
Finish electrical by adding light fixtures with bulbs and outlets.
Cover the floor with either Epoxy or something similar.

First day of constuction.

Concrete being finished. Naturally I marked initials in it.

Finished slab.

The walls went up quick.

Wiring.

Here comes spring with some flooding. Drainage with the yard will be a priority.

My plan for my garage is to have a usable space to park vehicles and work on projects. I want it to be clean and organized most of the time with a lot of innovative storage ideas to keep space open.

I will mainly be working on my motorcycles and I would like to eventually get a project car.

Bikes:
2006 Buell XB12S
2009 Konker KSM200
1965 Suzuki K11 Sports 80 (project) with 1964 M50 parts bike
2006 Suzuki Bandit 650

Looks like you have a good start on the garage. The exterior photo make it look like you live in some hell forsaken waste land.:lol_hitti Were are you located.

Very nice garage. We just built a similar size garage in Maine but I will be doing all the electrical with the help of a friend.

So far no 'spring leaks' in mine which I am glad of.

Being in Saskatchewan I assume that you will be doing a bit of insulating . . .

Electrical was pretty fun, first time doing anything like that and I had help from a family friend.

For sure Insulation is the next big priority so I can get my stuff out of my dad's garage.

I am weighing up the cost of spray foam insulation right at this moment. Not sure though.

What are peoples thoughts on it?

Spray foam is going to be more expensive hands down but it will make it nice and cozy and it also doubles as a vapour barrier. You will still need to do traditional or blown in for the ceiling. If it were me I would just buy the really good R value bundles and get a couple buddies (and some beer) and go to it. Seal it up with some vapor and save some money for other projects. Sounds like you are already doing some DIY and this is one of the easier ones to get done.
It's looking good so far!! What are your plans for heat?

I would look into the insulation made by Roxul. More fire resistant than fiberglass and I understand that vermin don't like it either.

Similar R-values to fiberglass but it doesn't 'compress' as easily which is how you can lose a lot of r-value when using fiberglass.

A small gas heater and I was looking in at the solar powered heater DIY project with pop cans painted black that heat up from the sun and a fan blows the air in. But still have to see how much sun is going to hit my garage and now that it is spring I won't be worrying about it until next winter.
