I have been browsing around here for about the last year looking for ideas for my project and figured id start a thread since im getting started pretty soon here. This is going to be my first house / garage. The garage is going to be 32' x 45' x 12' high of what would be the basment with the same size space above for living space. I plan on adding on someday and wanted to build the garage space first.
Hopefully starting the foundation mid to end of may. As long as all goes well. I still have to put in a sand mound and excavate for the foundation.
Ive spent the last year prepping the site. There was a ridiculous amount of rock that i wanted to get out of the way. One was about 31' x 16' and about 5' thick. So i had to figure out a way to break them up into manageable size pieces with a backhoe without costing me a ton of money. After some research i came across and old method using feathers and wedges. I was optimistic about it working but they ended up working really well once i had the correct technique down.
Its going to be a slow process since my dad and me will be doing all the work but ill try and post updates as progress is made. Here's some pics of were I'm at now.
Here's a what a feather and wedge is and a couple pics of the process
Rock Split In Half (You can see the large rock in the background)
Another Picture of the same rock
