First Garage

I am planning on building my first garage within the next couple of months. I am limited on the amount of space so the size will be a 15x25x12. I will know in the next few days if I have the extra room to make it a 20x25x12. My uncle (architect) is designing the building and will be stick framed. The purpose of this garage is to have a two-post lift installed when finished.

Right now my main concern is the concrete requirements for the lift. I have been reading a little and I see that the minimum is 4" @ 3000psi which doesn't seem to be enough.

Can you give me some tips/info about the concrete? Any other help with the garage in general will be appreciated.

I have a 4 post, but the principal is still the same, I took the Footprint area, where the feet would be and dug down another 10 " in that area. So now my floor is 4" with 14" under the feet.

4" @ 3000 psi is pretty much normal. If you're skeered put a little extra under the posts but I haven't had any problems and I have had a lot of weight on my old two post with 3K@ 4" with fibermesh added.

I have a 5 inch slab, with 4 inches of compacted (vibrated) gravel under that. I have moved my 4 post around several times. My concrete is fine, no cracks or other problems with the load of the 4 post .

Okay, will this is good news. I think I am going to do most of the slab 4" and then where the post are going put 6-8". The concrete guy is coming out either sometime this week or early next week to give me an estimate.

Hi,
Reinforcing the post is not a bad idea even if the 4' would be fine.As said before fibermesh can only be good for your slab.SchmitMix provide fibermesh (depending on location).
For the rest are you planning to get your garage insulated, water room, etc...?
Garage building guides on common online, make sure to gather as much information as required.
Finally insulation is an important part of the garage, make sure you choose the right products.

The lift I plan on getting will be a little under 12' which is a bendpak cf. The ceiling is going to be a little over 12' so I should be good. The concrete guy is going to start early next week and I decided to do a 20x25.

That's good news. When i was researching 2 posts, i found that if I wanted a clear floor model 12'2" seemed to be the magic number.

Does anyone know a place to get roll up doors at a good price. I am going to try and have two doors in this garage, a 10ft and 6ft. I don't need a industrial strenght over head door.
