I'm looking at the Cadet for a low budget job. I have a lot of experience with Lochinvars commercial stuff, but know nothing of their resi line. I've been told by a few people I should stay away from it, but they can't back it up as to why with an facts. There's not much in the way of reviews online either. Thanks.

our company went through a couple month stint installing them (we do 2-3 90% boilers a week)
1 out of 3 had problems, mainly controls.
The rep said they changed the computer and there trouble free. But we never put them in anymore.

Competitive that weve had good luck with is the vies man. Or bosh greenstar. Depending what your tring to do.

There are better alternatives but I wonder just how cheap the boiler your looking at really is compared to others ?
Triangle tube has a budget 95 % boiler out there It's the Challenger unit .
I like them.

looked at it at the wholesaler .. seemed kinda cheap and unfinished .. a lot of components that are usually cast were made of sheet metal .. didn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy

If bosch makes their boilers anything like their tankless electric water heaters I personally would run like hell,Ill never use one again.;)

It's about $1000 cheaper.

The no-frills of it is definitely reflected in the price.

definitely .. but more than just no frills .. the control panel looked like it was made in high school shop class

the last time i was involved with boilers based solely on the price it was quietsides .. what a nightmare they turned out to be, try finding parts for them .. although i will say there are some i put in that are still ticking along with never a day of trouble, but they are the exception

if you do go down this path please take some pictures and give us a decent report on your impression of them

I'm working with a customer with a really limited budget. It's going to be this boiler or an 80% cast iron. I really hate putting in anything 80%, but I hate warranty issues on my jobs more.

I installed my Lochinvar Knight boiler along with a Squire indirect 5+ years ago and have zero complaints. The heat exchanger looks the same from the pictures, but I only tend to research when I'm in the market. At the time, the Knight was my only consideration for a condensing, modulating boiler.

The old Lochinvar is a water-tube, like the new Munchkin Contender we have many of each in the field without complaint.

The new Lochinvar is a fire-tube with a new control. AOS acquired them about the same time so I decided to wait for the results.

I still install the Munchkin without problems for the budget jobs. Simple, reliable and cheap if you maintain it regularly.
