First home AND garage!

Hey there. Been creeping on these forums for a bit just for various information and ideas. Figured id post up my garage. I'm still in my mid twenties. So it's definitely not going to be the coolest garage or an epic build :)

My initial house hunt was to specifically tailored to get a BIG garage, kitchen bedroom counts etc were put on the backburner. Also wanted at least an acre of property AND on a budget. Such a house does not exist in my budget :mad:

This is my first purchase. Garage is a laughable 19x19, and the stairways cut into the usable space. BUT it has 14 ft ceilings, 9ft high lift garage door, and some windows. Also on about an acre with no HOA, so i can park my projects outside :thumbup:

Cover your eyes for the garage photo before I bought the house!

First thing in order was to remove part of this storage loft or whatever you call this thing. It was terrible. The lights were housed right above this deck. Beneath it was cave like. Only half a window for light :)

Painting sucked. Slapped on some primer on all the walls and the ceilings myself of course. It really did help make things brighter though. It was well worth it.

Floor treatment and prep work was absolutely brutal. Lots of scrubbing on the hands and knees. Did a soap and water clean, followed by a citric based etch. Then finally did a muratic acid based etch. Then swept out a bunch of concrete dust forever!!!

I'm actually close-ish to your neck of the woods. Youngsville nc. Yeah i thought it was kind of weird too! Inspection guy threw a fit over the whole platform.

Epoxy was next!

I'm not a tan guy by any means, but figured it'd match the house pretty well. So went with the dunes tan rustoleum epoxyshield. I used the pro kit which is a solevant based instead of the water based junk from home depot. I'm sure that stuff isn't the BEST either, but didn't want to lay a fortune down for epoxy. I've used it in the past and it has lasted several years with zero issues and laid down real nice.

I thought it came out really good. Obviously did the clear on top of the initial epoxy coat. The one thing that bugs me is the dimples and areas that aren't 100% flat are easily visible with the high gloss finish. Whoever laid the slab did a **** job.

I cleared and epoxied the masonry blocks in a separate phase. Didn't get to wild with preparation or fixing the **** masonry work on the base. I just chipped off the excess 2-3 inches of "mortar globs". Then just quickly slapped everything on.

Broadcasting the flakes sideways on the masonry blocks was not an easy task!

I still have no garage door opener, and its a real pain in the *** since I park my daily inside the garage. Locking the garage door and parking the car is quite the procedure.

That's changing this weekend. Putting a liftmaster 8500 up there!!! Next on the list is a homeade workbench area.

Your epoxy job turned out well, even the vertical surfaces !! :beer:

For small space, that garage has MASSIVE height . . How tall is it ??
It would be awesome to have double-wide 4 post lift and put 2 cars above !! ;)
