My wife and I bought our first home a few months ago and this past week we started on the garage (2 1/2 car) ...

We bought the model home and the garage was originally the sales office so it was finished walls, carpeted, heated, air conditioned, and even has a few HUGE flourescent light fixtures at the front of the garage that sit right over the fronts of the cars -- perfect general use working lights!

This is during our move in process ... note the lovely garage door openers that "open twice as fast, yet close gently" and the lights ... ahh the good life.

After we got moved in we threw out the carpet but things were still not the way we had planned so we took everything out of the garage and started our project.

First up Epoxy floor ...

Once that was dried enough to start putting stuff on it was time to look into work space and storage ...

Then today I decided I wanted more storage ...

Tomorrow night we will install the big storage cabinet (matches the grey work station and wall cabinets). This unit will install along the left side of the workstation to form one big unit ... the mop will be giving up its wall space :)

Next up my Craftsman Ball Bearing Toolbox goes in on the right side wall next to the side entry door where that folding table and garden tool rack currently resides (they will be moving to the new shed we are putting in under the deck.

After that ... who knows ... Im thinking about moving that work bench on the right into the basement and getting another Tough Stuff benchtop but with the smaller drawer units for each side (instead of the larger drawer or cabinet units) so I will also have an area for a padded stool. I would have LOVED to get the Gladiator stuff but $120 vs $300 for a cabinet was a no go at this time. At least the Tuff Stuff has a 10 yr warranty

EDIT: Forgot I have a stereo system that I have to install this weekend as well. It was my old home "theater" setup that is no longer being used so I figured the garage could use surround sound haha

With this being our first house (we are only 25 yrs old) we didnt have tons of $$ to spend on this project (I think total cost for epoxy and storage was under $600) ... nor will alot of heavy work be done in there. We just wanted a nice place to park our cars, store some tools, detail the cars, and have some extra storage space for "house" related stuff.

Comments and Suggestions welcome ... too bad I dont have higher ceilings -- ROTARY LIFT !!!

Looking good , II. Congrats on the first house and very nice place to park your cars & keep your tools. :)

Who says you can't get a lift? There are all kinds of mid-size lifts you could use if you decide you ever need one.

Yea my friend who is a full time mechanic at an Acura Dealership said I should just get a small lift that can get the cars high enough to make oil changes/brakes/etc easier.

Congrats on the house and garage. I'm basically in the same point in life as you. 27, married (for 2 days), new homeowner, and can't wait to work on finishing my garage.

That look very nice. You got a great jump start on that, with the garage having been an office.

I raged against the particle board in another thread on here not too long ago, but for your purposes, I bet it works out well. Based on what you saw while assembling/installing them, you think they are going to hold together OK? My only judgement against them is based on the ragged-out demo cabinets that I have seen at Lowe's, and A) every Tom **** and Harry on earth has messed with those and they're usually broken, and B) they're assembled by a minimum wage worker who's not paid enough to care if it's done right.

You really got a head start there with the pre-finished walls and extra lights.

Yes they seem VERY sturdy and will hold up to the abuse that I will put them through -- as long as you dont load em up with more than what they are rated for.

I'm working this week. We leave for Hawaii on Saturday morning. I replied to that during my lunch hour at work.

under $600 for all that? that's awesome...and looks great!
i'm in the process of doing the same thing (epoxy new garage, buy cabinets/work bench)
can you give me a quick cost-breakdown of how much all those parts were? that's be great help!

EDIT:
on lowe's website, these cabinet drawers look all f'ed up and misaligned. How's the quality/alignment of the ones you built? Do the drawers stick at all and rub against each other (in a non-****** way i mean) ?

Those are the 2 smaller ones I will be getting soon (along with another work bench) to replace that random piece I have now ... and since those are smaller I can put a stool underneath.

As for price ... just go by what the Lowes website has ... plus the "bonus pack" of the Rustoleum Epoxy kit (not the pro version)

As for the drawers ... I dont have any yet -- all cabinets -- but everything lines up just fine and fits flush. You just need to take your time adjusting the door hinges once things are in their final place and leveled.
