FIRST POST! Bench top question about go-to tools

Hi all! Great site. I love it!

I've got a decently outfitted 2 car garage that I've done a ton of projects in. Most recently this vintage bobber build.

Any way, I find myself, over and over again, pulling out the same three or four tools no matter what the project is. Typically they are a corded drill, air hose and an angel grinder. They get plugged in and just sort of live in a space at the end of my bench next to the vise. In a pile on top of one another.

Do you have any solutions or examples of what you do for this type of a situation? I imagine a shelf/tray/bin of some sort that houses these tools (not permanently) while the project is on?

You can buy a "service cart". They're usually (a type of) plastic or metal and not extremely expensive (though will depend on what you have access to). They're not necessarily a mechanics only solution though, a lot of general tool sites have them floating around. It depends on your budget and how much you plan on using them. Always good to have something you can walk around your work area if you're doing more than one thing at a time.

Check out pictures of my one car garage on the user CP. I built a wall shelf for common tools like you're talking about. No matter what I do I tend to use certian tools all the time. The green shelf was my solution. I also built a cart with air tools that slides in between the water heater and workbench.

I would install a air hose reel, keeps it out of the way and yet very accessable.

You can easily build a hanger for the grinder on the side of the bench or the wall.

I can't help you with the corded drill the only time I use mine is for large holes in parts that I can't get to the drill press, in fact in the shop I use the air drill if I can't use a cordless most of the time.
