Been lurking on here for a few months, but just now decided to post up. Bought my first house about 7 months ago. The place came with a small one car garage behind the house. And the 30x50 that's off to the side. It was built around 7 years ago. Supposedly has 4" reinforced concrete, also two 12x9 roll up doors, fully insulated from top to bottom, and has a peak height of around 18ft.

The one thing that hadn't been done by the previous owner was to wire the shop. They however did hang three 3'x4'(I believe) T12 lighting fixtures. I have finally got around to wiring the shop with the help of a friend who has been doing wiring for 20 something years. I scored four more T12 fixtures just like is already hung. I'll be installing them soon. Also have two 400 watt shop lights I'm going to hang as well.

Just purchased a Husky 60gallon compressor as well. Even though I have my service ran, I still won't have power for another month or so. Power company is drag assing. So for now we have the three lights temporarily wired to plug in with an extension chord lol.

Anyways here are some pics. I know it's not hardly as nice as most here, or have hardly the tools yet. But, I'm only 26, so that'll change eventually!

That's a great looking place! You should be proud, its even insulated. I don't have a building that big anymore and I'm a lot more than 26 years old.

Nice place, get that power in there and show us what you do inside.

Also would like to add a storage/loft area over by the main door/entrance way. All of my car parts are already gettin in the way lol.

Looking good there and welcome to the board. If you look in my build you can see how I did a loft in a similar building. If you have the end of the loft out in the floor consider building a 'storage wall' as I did to support the loft. It can kill two birds with one stone.

That's a great garage you have there. By the time you're done with it, it will be as nice as anything on GJ. Congrats!

Made a trip to harbor freight yesterday. Picked up a 6" bench ginger. A 6" Vice. Push broom(a hell of a lot easier than the old regular broom I was using!). Got a wire wheel to go on the grinder as well. A new 2.5 ton low profile jack. Some big casters so put on a fan I scored from an old chicken house lol. Also got some pictures of the service that I had installed. I think my electrician did an outstanding job. Still have to wire in a few more lights and a dusk to dawn I'll be putting up.

Still don't have power. Waiting for the power company still. Been almost 3 weeks now...

Here's some pics!

Looking good.

Always nice to see neat wiring. I've worked in million dollar houses that were wired with not nearly as much care.

Yeah I'm really proud of the job he did! He's been doing it since 88'. Only part time tho. I got a chance to use my vice today. I acquired a fairly large crescent wrench over the weekend. It was sitting in a old bucket of oil and rusted together. Wouldn't budge. So I mounted the vice up and went to work. Took it all apart. Hit it all with a wire wheel. Oiled and anti-seized her up. Works awesome now!

Nice work on the adjustable! It's always fun bringing back an old rusty tool to use.

Almost reminds me of an old pair of lineman's pliers I found near a garbage can the other week. They were rusted together at the joint and wouldn't move. I needed a pair of pliers with a semi-decent wire cutter, so I got out the WD-40 and got to work. Now I've got a good, working pair of free pliers!

I hear ya! I also hit up a pair of needle noses that were frozen shut as well! I love finally having a decent vice!

Well I haven't updated this in a WHILE. I picked up a harbor freight 44" box a month or so ago. Got the camaro running(still have to weld up a piece of the exhaust and bleed the brakes some more). And picked up a used rotary spoa9 lift. Got the columns stood up, but nothing is bolted down yet. Hopefully this weekend I'll have that finished crossing my fingers that it works!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm doing a little at a time to get it the way I want it. Still want to build another work bench. And would even like to get another 44" box. And with the lift, I'm going to need a Trans jack. Damn. Does it ever end?

Hell yeah! I'm 25 and it's great seeing someone around my age building and improving their home.

I wish I had an extra garage like that. *jelly*

Got the columns of the lift bolted in. The concrete was anywhere from 4.5" to 6" thick. And VERY hard. Took almost four hours to drill 10 holes. Broke one of the equalizing cables while trying to free a nut that was stuck on the end of one. I'll order two new ones tomorrow. All that will have to be done then is wire it up and bleed the hydraulics. Fingers crossed that it work lol.

Just a small update. Finally got the rotary 9klb lift working. Had to do surgery on the hydro pump for the motor. Had a stuck check valve and some debri in it. Here's a few pics. Need to get some lift accessories now. Oil drain, Trans jack, tri pods, etc.

Well I haven't updated in a while. Not sure anyone even cares anymore lol. More of a place for me to keep a "journal" of sorts I guess. Got a few goodies the past few months. New work benches, shelves, welder, torches, hose reel, lift accessories, etc.

Here's the rotary in action with my Dodge 2500 Cummins

I ran an outlet from the power unit on the lift to the bottom of the column so I can have the welder centrally located. It's a Lincoln 180HD. And a set of torches, tanks, and cart I picked up for $150.

Huge shop! I hope to start building one myself leasing a building for a shop is expensive. And I work at home more than the shop. If there is a store where your at that sell used restaurant equipment you can get a badass deal on stainless tables and pans for parts ect. I bought one 8 feet long was used on the side of a dishwash sink. Perfect engine table

Nice space. You've done a good job with it so far.

I wish spaces like this were more readily available and somewhat affordable around here...

I'm surprised more people don't use those steel roof truss rafter. Quick and easy to set and you get almost the full height !

I noticed that yours are attached to the posts so they must be 8' or 10' spacing.

Thanks guys. I would love to have a stainless bench like the one a few post up! And yeah the trusses are set on 10' centers. There's no doubt I have plenty of space height wise lol. I would still like to add a loft of sorts one day.

Really liking your shop hope, hoping construction on mine will be started soon. What is the height of your side walls? I have a 30x 40 that will be in the works soon with 12' side wall height.

Kids these days got it way too easy. Hell, when I was 26 we worked on the ground in 4 feet of snow on the 4th of July and we liked it like that!

Just kidding-you're off to a great start at the tender age of 26. I'm envious of your lift-that's on my wish list so you're way ahead of me.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

Yep, it'll change. Because before long you'll be 27

J/K....Great looking place you have. I was 40+ before I got a garage I could enjoy, then like a *******, I built it with 8' ceilings. So yea, you're doing great in my book  It really doesn't matter whether it compares to the high dollar garages that some have, or the sheds that someone still has to lay out in the weather to work on their car. As long as you're happy with what you have, then that's all that matters.

Well the garage doors are 12' tall. There's a foot or two above the door before it hits the roof. So 13' or 14'. It's like 16' at the very top.

you have good taste in cars and even better taste in trucks.

I'm not a dodge guy by any means. But the cummins is by I bought her. Have to take the bad(Trans and interior) with the good(engine) lol. And I don't ever see me getting rid of my SS. Too much blood, sweat, tears, memories, *** kickings, and MONEY into her. She's my baby.

Sooo how about a 4 year update lol. Finally got around to adding 4 more light fixtures overhead. As well as a few fixtures I hung on the walls. Cheapo tool cart I got for free. Some more tool boxes. And have performed man engine swaps, transmission swaps, clutch jobs, lift kits on trucks, anything you can think of really lol. Just a few shots I took the other day.

12' work bench with a 4' section of metal top.

Wall of tool boxes. Couple of craftsmans, a husky from Home Depot, and the ol' general 44" from HF.

Little tool cart

Couple panorama shots
