Hello everyone. Just discovered this site, and always interested in talking, uh, shop? I just retired after 31 years in the correctional security business, but this retirement is tough, not enough hours in the day.
Anyhow, my shop is primarily used to build cars, but I have somewhere around 745 projects currently in progress, including a body-off resto of a 71 Karmann Ghia. The Oklahoma heat and humidity are making it tough, with only a swamp-cooler and a cold-water fountain to keep the heat demons away. I have a large 220vac window unit that I could install, but havent decided yet to pay for that pleasure.
I'll start with a few pics of my unorganized shop, and my new acquisition.
Started surfing Craigslist a few weeks ago looking for an air compressor to replace my cheap Husky, which somehow developed a bent crank, outside of the case. My diligence paid off a few days ago when I found an old Champion 2-stage with a monster 3hp single phase motor. The plate on the 40 gallon tank says it was built in 1952. The seller was moving to Washington state and didnt want to move this, so he sold it to me for a pittance. After running it for one day the tank developed a leak in the bottom, so I plumbed the air to the 60 gallon tank from the old unit. The pics tell the rest.

Welcome cubby.....your going to fit in just fine.....

If you don't mind...put your location in your profile....you don't have to be exact....state is fine.....If you were in OK City....we would understand why you wouldn't want anyone to know....(I was stationed at Tinker)....

Nice find. I would seriously look at moving the pump and motor to the other tank.
Nice resto project is it going back stock or custom.

Ghia will be stock as far as sheet metal. Chassis has been lowered 4" front and back, has a street irs ****** with super diff, and a well built 1915 cc engine.
As for the compressor, I used the original regulator and check valve, but this pump and motor weigh about 200 lbs more than the Husky stuff, and I'm a bit concerned about the tank bearing that much more additional weight than it was designed for. I'll eventually find an 80 or 100 gallon horizontal tank, but for now I'm just happy to have a good working CFM that doesnt hurt the ears.
