First post - Record No. 22 Vice Restoration

Hello all,

New member here from the UK! I've just built my dream garage (will post a thread soon), and I've completed my first project in the garage: restoring an old Record No. 22 Vice.

I bought the vice for around £25 and this was the condition I received it in:

Bought a handy little tool:

And got the vice to this stage:

Bought BS381C 110 Roundel Blue paint from www.militaryvehiclepaint.co.uk:

Taped up and first coat down:

After second coat, 24 hours drying, and reassembled:

And a final before/after:

Thanks. The roundel blue paint used is a match for the original paint used by Record

Welcome to the group. Very nice Record. I must warn you that vise restoration is an addiction to which there is no cure. If you haven't done so, check out the Vises of Garage Journal thread. Lots of good vise **** there!

Thanks for the comments. Yes I'm already looking for a smaller swivel vice to add to the other end of the bench. Possibly a Record Imp or even a 74 or 75.

Just looking at the 22 I'm wondering what the difference between the 22 and the 25 is.. They look the same.. I used the blue smoothrite on mine as it was easy to get hold of locally.. And I too must get cracking on my growing Stilson collection.. Nice referb.

hi while they may look the same is there a differnece in lenght, ie can one hold larger items than the other.
