so as i posted in some of my previous threads I picked up a 4 month old 7hp 80 gallon 2stage air compressor...well finally after hooking it up and wiring i got to run it tonight for the first time and it seemed to me that the belt had a bit of up and down deflection in it.... i saw the compressor run at the previous owners home and i dont remember seeing it jump that much..... when i hooked it all up i put the pump on the frame( non adjustable) then i put the motor on the frame which is adjustable. so i squared the motor up to the compressor frame then i squared up the compressor pullies. I set the belt to the correct amount of play and figured i was done........

just wondering if this seems normal , now i knowit is hard to tell without seeing it so i was wondering if anyone has any videos of their compressors sunning where you can see the belt.....

thanks

they need to be tighter than what can be done by just placing the motor. I often employ the use of a pry bar or very large screwdriver to pull as much slack out of the belt as possible by prying against the motor pulley while its lose, and tightening down on the mounting bolts at the same time.

I would not worry if the pulley's are a few degrees out of alignment as long as the belt isnt visibly running out of alignment itself.

I look for a good tight feel in the belts, both top and bottom, before i'm satisfied. My older unit wont care too much either way, but does sound a bit quieter when the belts have good tension on them, while the newer 60gal upright will audibly squeel during the initial start-up if the belt has any slack to it at all.

i think that is the problem... i will give it a try because right now i probably have 1/2 or 3/8 play when i apply some force to it...
