here is the first set of mac wrenches that I bought back in 95. these wenches have been used a lot and i bought the roll pouch to go with them. if I go to the salvage yard I always take these. they range from 1/4" to 1-1/4". I paid 672.95 for these 11 years ago and it took me 4 and 1/2 months to buy them at 1 wrench a week. now I see that this same set cost 829.99. glad I bought mine years ago.
Item Number: SCL182KS

Dang, I would not take an expensive set like that junkin, I would be more inclined to use a 70-80 $ Cman set!

At least a quick glance at the roll up pouch will telly you quickly whether or not you've forgotten a wrench!

I got a pretty good starter set of Mac stuff about a year and a half ago. I LOVED the roll-up wrench set I got (smaller than your set). However...a house fire did it's work on them (and 4 cars and a 4-post lift)... I miss those... right now I'm working with a tiny Husky all in one set.

(Items are circled in yellow because these pictures were sent to my insurance adjuster)

A little chrome polish should clean those right up!

I am having a hard time understanding what makes them worth 8 or 10 times a craftsman wrench set? I have less than a 150 bucks in a whole set of craftsman pro's and The other 500 went towards my Zo6 corvette. What is it that makes them so valuable? They are both guaranteed for life.

MAC wrenches have always intrigued me. However, I've never owned any. I had a MAC tool catalog and the KS2's looked very well made. Thick and well polished. MAC makes a "Standard" size, "Long" size and "Extra-Long" size. However, I've never understood why they were priced soooooo high? To compete with snap-on maybe?????

There was an older thread where Wythors had commented that he prefered the feel of his Craftsman Pros over that of his MAC set. Hopefully he will elaborate here.

I've always wanted to purchase a full set of Metric & SAE Extra Long MAC wrenches. However the cost is too prohibitive. I'm going with SK.

Once you use premium wrenchs like Mac, Snap-On, Blue Point, S&K,and Matco, and then compare them to Craftsman, Husky, and other similar wrenchs, you can feel the difference right away. I'll grab my Blue Point wrenchs (made along side the Snap-On wrenchs) before the Craftsman and Husky if I need to break a bolt loose a nut or bolt and not worry about stripping it.

Over 800 for a end wrench set, not for me. How many starters a guy got to change for that and what you getting from a junkyard? Buy a 800 set of wrenchs to salvage a used alternator. Maybe I am missing the light but I would go to Menards and buy an 80 set of USA made wrenches and have them paid for by noon, buy lunch at the bar and take the rest of the day off before I spend 800 on a few end wrenches to admire the chrome. That theory goes double for young guys that need some real working tools on a budget.

I like good stuff too but I have more in the 3 snapons in this bunch than all the rest. These are some of my faves. The master mechanic 3/4, 3$, the Olympias, 1.50, those are real money makers. not too embarrassed to throw a Huskey in the bunch and most the others I snagged at sales on occasion, suprising on how many people give away tools they dont use, those second hand places are great, I dont go out of my way but there are occasions I get a chance to pass thru a flea mkt and grab up some nice stuff for the right prices, my bud got a nice snappy 1/2 ratchet for 20 and I bought some others USA for 10 a piece. Beats a day at work making payments on them. I bought SK and craftsman 3/8 ratchet and a proto crecent for 20$ all near new, work great. 3/8 extensions, 2$ with a factory defect in the finish, that 15/16 Husky, USA 7 or 8$, cant beat it. I like the Proto tubing wrenches.

I find the mental anguish of a decision to buy the occasional 8 $ wrench when I need it so much easier than the 80$ decision,, hahaha

I'll pipe in here. Those USA made Allen branded wrenches at Menards have some of the tightest fits on the fasteners. Not much slop in those wrenches. I like them too and for the price, they are hard to beat.

sberry, I don't go to the junk yard for a used alternator. the salvage i was talking about was removing a disc brake axle to swap my old drum brake axle in my 66 f-100 and many more parts. I don't work on cars for a living anymore I am a plant manager where I work and use all of my tools around my house. I enjoy restoring older cars and trucks where I can work on them at my time when I want. I have a drawer full of assorted wrenches from thorson and bonney, and craftsman which i'm going to give my son cause I never use them anymore. most of my tools are mac cause I like the feel and the quality of the tool and they never loose value.here are some of my wrenches that are just taking up space. and here is where I like to use my mac tools.
