I’ve been watching too many tool videos on YouTube where guys have a huge selection of brand new tools to show off. I saw the cheap Lowes Kobalt copies of the Knipex pliers in a video so I bought a set and threw them in my work truck.

Today was a successful use of a meme tool for me. I had to replace a pressure transmitter and had a screw I couldn’t even remove with a right angle ratcheting screwdriver.

I had to swap this transmitter which is mounted to a backplate with screws from the rear. Unfortunately the screws mounting the backplate are behind the only isolation valves in the water lines.

The offending screws.

Finally new transmitter testing before tidying everything up and moving on.

This being garage journal where you have to own every tool rest assured I ordered an actual set of Knipex twin grips this evening. How do you explain something simple took so long by having to remove screws a 1/16th of a turn at a time.

Actually the Kobalt pliers are pretty good considering they were about $8. Stay away from YouTube videos or you will buy stuff for no reason.

I don't see how a low price makes the tool better. The quality of the tool is independent of the asking price as I see it. Perhaps I have it wrong.

If a low price makes the tool better, does a high price make the tool worse? This must be true if the above is also true.

If this is how it works then the Knipex pliers must be inferior because they have a higher MSRP.

Nice work.
Another trick is to use a very small chisel to the side of the screw to rotate it off or to at least break it loose. Done it many times especially countersunk screws on automotive rotors.
