So, I recently inherited a truckload of tools from my father-in-law, this guy is like my second father!! Well they're leaving their home of about 40 years and are going to RV around the nation. My (dad) had a 20x20 shop and didn't want to sell his stuff to just anybody so he told the wife and I to come to their house and pick up some stuff. :dunno:

I was expecting to get a few of his hand tools and whatnot, but when I backed the truck up to his shop, he said, "Whatever you want, you can have." My jaw dropped and I said, "Well dad, I'd like it all, but I can't afford half of it!" To which he laughed and said, "I hoped you'd say that, but you aren't paying me anything." :rocker:

So, in my GMC I loaded a craftsman 5.5hp 30g air compressor, a craftsman table saw/router combo, a skil bench top bandsaw, chop saw and drill press. I also got a porter cable grinder with a stand, a belt/disk sander combo with all his extra sandpaper. He gave me all his air tools, like 15 total, a home-made anvil and all his hammers.

Mind you, all of his stuff is spotless, everything works and when we got the truck loaded, he asked me if I wanted the boxes and paperwork for it all!! :willy_nil

It took us about 3hrs to load the truck and after I looked through the boxes and took the paperwork we had a beer together!

Annnnd, the best thing about all this is that my wife was talking with her mom while we were outside and mom convinced the wife that I need a workshop to hold it all!!:eyecrazy::thumbup::lol_hitti

I'm looking at 25x30 in the back yard about 50 feet from the backdoor. Hopefully we'll start work on it after the beginning of the year. I'll finally have a place to put my 86 Chevy that I've been working on and we're going to have room to put all of our storage so we don't have to spend money for a storage unit!! :D

I know this forum is all about pics, so I'll try to get some posted, I'm also retiring from the Air Force after 20yrs so things are a bit busy and it might take me a while to get pics up.

Thank you for your service! Obviously your (Dad) thinks highly of you as well, that's the way it should be, handed down to the next generation. And kudos to your (Mom) for bending your wife's ear..haha.

First and foremost, thank you for your service, it is appreciated by so many. Secondly, That's awesome that you were able to get his tools! The most productive part was getting the wife talked into letting you build a shop! Thanks for sharing and please don't be a stranger!

Thanks guys! I'm in the works for bids, talking with a couple builders, so we'll see how it goes. I'll be taking pics and stuff and updating "My garage build thread" as things progress.

To all our veterans out there, you are appreciated and remembered, tomorrow our nation will celebrate Veteran's Day, but, to most veterans, myself included, we were just doing our job.

Thank you all for your service to this great country!!

Okay, finally figured out how to upload the pics I took 3 days ago... :bounce:

Hope you all enjoy my new-to-me tools, can't beat free!!

This is the table saw/router combo, with shop-vac dust collection below:

Here is the compressor with a shot of the bolt/screw/washer storage that's completely full, and heavy. You can't see the welder that I forgot to mention my FIL gave me as well, it's behind the compressor, now I have two!

Here's the bench-top sander on a custom bench my FIL made:

And here is the group of Skil bench-top tools, a workmate and two heavy duty saw horses I also received:

I also got this bench vice as well as another old one that I get to restore, but I'll post the pics of that in another thread:

And finally, I didn't get a pic of it, but the porter-cable bench grinder is loaned to a friend already... :Twitch: Hope I get that back soon!!
