They have a big selection but from what I see at the one near me everything but their brand is full retail. I can buy form other places for less unless they have some kind of sale going.

Good stuff in there. There is one of those about 5 min from my house, I go in there and look around about once a month or so....

Last time in there I bought 2 moving/packing blankets for $5.24 each.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

I was on the way to breakfast when I spotted it and I had to pull over!

When I was in there I saw the same guy I was talking to at the rifle range. The range is like 60 miles from my house, talk about luck.:willy_nil

Kind of weird, Im a couple hours to the closest store, and no where near Burnsville, MN, but there is an auction house about 10 miles from me that liquidates their returns. Not just "non-working" or broken, but any kind of return. Ive got to have at least a hundred items around here that are from Northern tool.

In my truck, Ive got the last 5 years of Northern master catalogs, because these returns can be a couple years old, anyhow, I have the catalogs with me, so when I go to the auction, I know exactly what everything was new. Sometimes the clowns at the sale will pay full retail and more for some of it. Other times I get super deals.

Off the top of my head, I cant think of anything Ive bought that didnt work, or at least of all the stuff Ive "checked out". I still have totes full of stuff Ive not tried using. I did buy a hand truck that I broke, from overloading it, but that was a combination of it being a taiwan POS, and me over loading it.

Where is this auction house? I wouldn't mind looking into it if it is near my travels.

One recently open by me and I am not impressed at all. To me it is the ******* child of Fleet Farm and HF. 90% plus is their house brands and everthing eles was honestly over priced. Someday I am going to test their free shipping to the store. I have found they have unbeatable prices on stuff in the catalog, but the shipping always kills it. I do stop in from time to time to nosey, but have walked out of there not buying anything more then once.

Places like this are why my wife keeps her eye on me. She did win serious brownie points a couple of weeks ago when she tried to squeeze a trip to Pincess Auto (Ottawa) into our family visit to her sister. Sadly, nothing like that exists here around Montreal.

Are these places all the same, from the same suppliers etc?

I plan at least 2 hours to go in there and look around. I really like my local one, they don't mind me bringing my little Dachshund Lucy in there, in fact they encourage it. I always spend way to much money in there though.

It works for me.
On another note the store will match any online N.T. sale price!
Just got some N.T. brand 1/4 sockets, and adapters, they work fine.
Hey, sign up for their e-mail newsletter, they will also send ya snail mail promo's and
coupons and such.

Plus, the Norfolk, VA store has a small engine parts dept., not sure if all of em have it, but it's come in handy for me a couple of times.

Theres one about 10-15 miles from me and my parents house as well so pretty accustomed to them. They send out 5 off 15 and 20 off 100 coupons quite a bit and online codes as well. With out those I usually don't get much. They have some Ernst soft wrench racks. Gotten a plier rack and some various other stuff. Usually have stuff on clearance as well. Got a big 36mm wrench to make a fan clutch wrench from. That took some grinding :)

Looked over those Homak boxes the other night. Seem to be pretty sturdy. Better than the Torin ones.

In picture 19 of your album I have the bondhus hex wrenches. Theyre great. Made in USA!

But yeah northern tool is great. A lot of their stuff is junk, but they also have great prices on some good stuff!

My first time in a Northern Tool was when they opened one near my house in Plano. My initial impression was that it was marginally better than HF with a much smaller selection of items. Then I went to a different location further away in Garland, and WOW, what a difference. That store was a much bigger with an exponentially larger selection of items. Needless to say, my impression completely changed. I would say they are a step up from HF because they sell brands like Channellock and Bondhus, they have a nice selection of compressors and toolboxes, and they sell other miscellaneous things that come in handy (hydraulic hoses come to mind). One strike against them is that most of their "house" brand items are the exact same as HF but they cost more. But, overall a good place.

I bought a cover for my zero steer mower that I had seen on their website, they didn't have it in the store so I asked how long it would take to get it in. They said they didn't stock that particular one but if I paid for it they'd order it in at no shipping charge. Took about 5 days but they called me when it came in - it was cheaper there than anywhere else I'd seen the exact same cover by quite a bit - which is why I did it!

Point being, no shipping charge for items ordered in the store to the store....I don't know if you can do that online from home or not, but when I went to the store they looked it up online on their website for me to get the sku...

I have one of the pressure washers that they sell for several years now. Great machine and the store stocks parts and accessories for it. I have bought several things from there.

What is it that makes HF smell?? Seriously.. Im not kidding.. Ive been to two of them by me and both have that "HF smell." WTF is it?!?!?!!?!?

I think its the smell of the nasty toxic grease from china.....either that or the nasty toxic rubber. Even the products in boxes stink like it. I have decided to stop shopping there to save my lungs!:lol_hitti

I would trade away all the HF stores within the area for a single Northern Tool. Hell you can have Home Depot too!

Dan you nailed it, appleton store is very poor, most of what they have in store is hf quality at 1.5 times the hf price, they would be smart to stock more of the brand name items. Atleast they would have something over harbor freight.

Exactly the feeling I got Dan. I think the Appleton store is a bit too small to carry enough selection to interest me. The majority of what they carry is not the hard-to-find-locally stuff you can get in the catalog, it's just the absolute most common stuff you can buy anywhere locally - at higher prices.

I did end up buying a 4-wheel hose reel when it went on sale, other than that - haven't bought a thing.

Its hard to beat Fleet Farm here in WI, especially in Appleton. I like TSC, but live on the other side of town and never find a reason to make my over there. There are enough options around here that Northern just doesn't bring anything new to the table.

I like 'em because they have odds and ends of name brand stuff not otherwise found locally. They have a 36" Homak box I'm really drooling over.

I do like my NT brand (Klutch) compact impact (tho admittedly, it has not yet broken loose the rusty 28-year old 19mm bumper bolts on my truck).

Also, they have Milton air fittings.

+ plus I have a Mac's Hardware store which is the best hardware store I've even been to. If you ever in North or South Dakota go to a Macs you'll be there for a couple hours at least. Oh and I also have L&M fleet supply stores that have a huge selection of S&K tools. Its good living in big farm country, at least for tool stores it is.
