I had some time and some materials. I had everything laying around besides the tires coupler bolts and paint. I just bought a 180amp lincoln mig welder. Tell me what you think.

Now you need to trash that hokey hand-held shield Lincoln throws in the box with those things and get yourself a decent auto-dark. You'll be amazed at the difference.

The trailer looks nice.

If you buy a chop saw get the 14" version. I have a chop saw but most of the time I grab the porta-band first. It's a lot quieter and makes a cleaner cut. It also leaves a fair amount less dust in the shop.

 Yup when you can put two hands on the stinger it helps lay down a smoother bead.

Hey, Wait Just A Minute, In my hometown it is considered to be an honor to be introduced as someones "OLD LADY" and it is a term of endearment to our "OLD LADIES".
I caught that bird right off the bat and you all beat me to it.

Don't need fenders or lights for it to be road legal?
I just licensed a home made trailer I built in Ontario and I was surprised by how little information I had to provide. I was in the licensing office on another matter and I asked how I would go about licensing a trailer I built. Ten minutes later I walked out with a license for it. The trailer wasn't even finished yet! Basically they wanted to know the weight of the trailer and its colour. I guessed at the weight. She knew I did but didn't care. I told her it had a black metal frame with aluminum sides. The lady got a liitle tense and told me I could only list one colour. "Fine ... silver". No questions about design, materials, axles, tires, lighting etc. "Do you want some pictures?" ... "No". I'm comfortable that it will be safe on the road but I could have built the thing out of wood and put lawn mower tires on it and they woudn't have known. With all of the things that are overly regulated by our government I was surprised by how easy it was to get a trailer license.

Sure, but having it registered and it being road legal are two very different things.
I'm not sure what you mean. It's registered and licensed which means that the government considers it to be legal for use on the road. Based on what little information they required I don't know how they can conclude that. I could have walked in and registerd a trailer that didn't even exist. Anyway, here it is.

HaHa I've done that I had a trailer plate in my name but I didn't own a trailer. I was using different trailers that friends owned but they never had current plates. So I just took a trailer and had it weighed and paid for a trailer plate and just moved the plate to whatever trailer I was using at the time.

Very nice job on the trailer. The only thing I can see that should had been a little different is the axle location. the axle looks too far back in relationship to the trailer and tongue. I imagine the front is way heavy. You want it to be more balanced out so when loaded it is not creating excessive tongue weight on whatever vehicle you have it on. Not knowing you exact specifications, I would think that making the front spring perch the rear one would set the axle forward just about right.

I just registered it and it was a cake walk a few simple questions and some receipts i had a plate. I was told by highway patrol that lights on a small trailer are not needed as long as the tow vehicle lights are visible. Kevin54 the axle is so far back so it tows nice empty my old tilt trailer would wander when empty with the gate on the back. I pull it with my 07 dodge ram 2500 4x4 cummins the tongue weight rating on my hitch is 2000lbs and i dont ever plan on putting more then 1500lbs on the trailer. The empty tongue weight is 160lbs.

Nate379, Nice catch on the fenders, and in my state you must have lights and fenders both to be legal. We can also license home made trailers and it depends on the weight you are wanting to pull and the trailer weight on the price of the tag.

Guess it could be ok for the ATV, but def no more weight than that. The aspect ratio is way too long (wheels too far back). If the ATV is set over the tires then not too big a deal but the A frame tounge will take a huge load over that span with any real weight forward of the axle. Over bumps it will be a bit too much for even the ATV loaded properly. Looks very clean & done nice but has the potential to be very unsafe. Trailer tounge is not a project I would feel comfortable or recomend doing as a first welding project. The thin frame rails will flex and cause a lot of stress and fatgue in the joint with the heavy a-frame, so keep an eye on that area and pray the welds are 100% ideal. You wanted feedback.....

Honestly it looks like a trailer as viewed from 20 ft away so I can't tell you what I think other than the axle is to far back.

iv been welding for 3 years now at work. And the the tongue was welded to the frame by a buddy of mine that owns a machine shop. I didnt feel that my 220v 180 mig could handle 3/8 angle and get good penetration. This is a purpose built trailer that hauls my 4 wheeler with the gate on the back and the four wheeler on it the tongue weights in at 255 lbs. I wouldnt consider that dangerous. I like the way it tows empty running 60 mph on the high way no wandering like my tilt trailer did unless i put every bit of weight i could on the tongue. thanks for the imput

For crying out loud, it's a 2k# axle under the thing, he's not going to be able to pull off any significant tongue weight unless he stacks concrete 4' high at the very front of the trailer.

More centered axles on those short trailers make them a ************* to deal with on the road, and backing up. I would love for the axle on my 4x8 to be in that location rather than the spot it's in.

with anything 1/2 ton pickup and up, you're not going to be able to get excessive tongue weight on that trailer.
