Being a recent addition to the home/garage owner... I built my first workbench this weekend. Really the first carpentry project I've ever undertaken, so I'm pretty happy with the results.

Here are some pictures.

At that age I think I was having trouble finger painting. I like it drawers are nice and it is movable well done.

The moveable part is going to go I think. I built it at 40", because I wanted something slightly higher than standard 36". However, 40" is just too high. I'm going to pull the casters off eventually, and put them on a smaller ~4' table/bench I think. Something that's more easily portable around the garage. This 6'er will just find a nice home against the wall.

nice job! what's your tool list for this project?

Tools...

Just a cordless driver, circular saw, corded drill, screwdriver, and mallet, tape measure, speed square, level (used as a straight edge, since it's 24" long).

Total cost was ~$100 as you see there. $15 of that was casters that I'll be taking off. Design was a hybrid of a couple of plans I found on the internet, and then some creative engineering when I realized I didn't have enough plywood. :)

Damn........Looks a lot like the one that is in my garage from the house we just moved into and was left........Mine has no drawers. Just a top and lower shelf. I wondered why the heck it was SO short!!!!! Maybe somehwere along the years it was built for a young one!

Since it's screwed together and has 2x4's for legs, I am thinking about just cutting new/taller legs for it!

That looks great. Good work, looks sturdy (but I agree that the casters will cause more aggravation than they are worth).

Adding the drawers wasn't that bad. There's just (2) 2x5 pieces sitting vertically cross the width of the bench on either end. And then a 2x8 spans that. The drawers just sit on the 2x8.
