I need your help. Every time it rains our basement has a weird fishy smell.
I looked up a few answer on google and did not get much help.

One said it was electrical
One said wet insulation
One said drain trap was dried out and was producing sewer gas.

I need your help with this. Has anyone had this problem or heard of anything like this?

thanks,

I'm not sure about the first 2 but I do know about the 3 one. Yes the drain trap dry out over time and can cause a smell. Best way to fix it is pour a gallon of water down them every couple of months. Good luck.

Well Its not really a basement that is in the ground. It is ground level but goes two stories up.
It does not have a sump pump.
Does not smell in the winter.
Only smells when it rains.

Does insulations smell when it gets wet?

I do not see any moisture on the dry wall

I am about ready to cut a hole in the wall and see if there is any moisture.

Go rent/borrow a moisture meter before you start cutting test holes in your drywall. It'll be able to tell you real quick if there's a presence of moisture back there, without all the mess. Good luck!
