Hi, I'm buying another home and I have two vehicles. But my extended cab Tundra will not fit lengthwise. The back wall faces the yard, so if extending the garage is possible, nothing is in the way.

The question is is it possible to extend the back wall out? Or at least on the side the truck will be parked. I have heard it can't be done and if it can, we're talking major costs.

Any information would be great!! Thanks for your help

I can be done. Where I grew up all of the old garages couldn't fit the 1970's land yachts so everyone did hip roof bump outs. This allow the longer cars fit inside of the garage. The hood of the car would just fit under the bump out.

Pretty hard to answer without some pics and or at least some idea of what type on construction your starting with...?

I.e. full floating slab, block foundation/ stem walls, lot grade...

Snap some pics... Anything's possible if you've got the green.

Kind of funny this thread would show up today, I pulled my truck into the garage tonight and it actually fit. I bought a new truck during my garage renos and was not sure if it would fit being a bigger truck and a new layout in the garage.

Very Happy!!

My father in law did this by extending the entrance out to the edge of the eaves and moving the garage door. The extra 18 inches did it.

Our last house (built in 1990) would just fit my 90 Toyota and out 91 Forerunner both in terms of length and width. This house was built in 1977 and the 2 car garage fits my 1/2 ton 4X4 and my wife's Wrangler JK with no problem. I have benches, tools, and shelving on three walls and there is plenty of room front and sides. I don't knw why some builders have gone to these small garages that won't fit a full size truck

Just the opposite around here... garages are getting bigger and bigger.

A few houses I looked at had maybe an 18x20 for a "2 car" garage.

thanks for everyone's input. I didn't think about extending the garage door side....that's definitely a thought.

I don't know the exact size of the garage, built 1981, I just know I paced it off and paced off the truck and I was off by about 2-3 feet. (Old owner has a ton of stuff in there right now, can't try to see how off I really am)

That hip roof bump out is kinda what I was thinking. Sorry no pics, or good ones anyway
The tundra is an 02 extended cab. Not really big by today's standards.

and thanks purduesd, but I have no idea. Chinese to me.

Does anyone know if I'm talking over 5K for this?
