Sitting at the table, I look over and see this:

Supposed to look like this:

Appears the tube has broken more than the weld. Not sure.
Maybe the local muffler place. Or body shop.
Ideas?
Thank you!

Probably easily repairable but paint will need to be ground back and frame repainted. Also try to remove any fabric or its likely to get burnt. Thinking power will need to be dialed back to prevent blowing through the tubing.

Not sure if this would be an option but you could probably get an expanding nut (or epoxy a nut/dowel inside tube and come through back with a bolt or screw as alternative to welding.

Friend's place near Chicago.

Tried to use this as an excuse to buy one of these.
Big Blue® 800 Duo Air Pak™ Truck Mount w/Wireless Interface Control #907752004

Nope.

My welding days are over anyway. Neck and head issues. Cannot wear a helmet. Etc.

It's really easy to burn through that thin tube it might be better to braze it.

Outside of scraping/wire brushing the paint off, thats not much different from welding exhaust. Your first thought was correct. Take it to an ehaust shop (with a box of cookies) and ask nicely if someone would help you out. Point out that it's just two short welds on the sides, no upside down or overhead work - that would take me less than fifteen minutes if the paint is already gone.

all I was pointing out , in this day & age people often don't want to do " other stuff" outside of their day to day business.
I fully agree that an exhaust shop would be an ideal place to take it, just don't be upset if they say no.
WARNING! GRAY HAIRED RANT AHEAD!
Sadly, you are correct. Too many people cant be bothered to do anything that requires an extra sixty seconds of thought or effort. I was just noticing today a bent parking lot sign near the front door of a store. 30 seconds of pushing to straighten it and make the entrance more inviting to customers, yet each employee walked right past it, including the "manager" - manager in name only...

You could....
plug the horizontal tube with a wood dowel
then
Run a fender head screw through pre drilled hole from outside of the vertical into said dowel

Yes you'll have exposed hardware but paint match and be on your way

Unless this is some super nice chair??

Haha 😄 nah, nothing special. Nothing special at all. Will get redone soon. Just glad I saw it from another chair.

Near Chicago.

It’s not much of a weld. Thin cheap tubing, quickly tacked together, and painted to hide.

If you don’t mind waiting for warmer weather, and a drive out to scenic DeKalb, I could do at least as crappy a weld on that for you as the factory did. You’ll need to handle the paint-to-hide part yourself though.

I have a welder and I still would do the dowel fix with a screw through the leg. No sanding, maybe no touching up paint (maybe the screw head) and It's probably 8" or so from the floor no one's going to see it. Put a rivet through the tube and into the dowel on the bottom to get a nice tight fit.
