So I found a pair of Hapewe Porsche kit pliers at the flea market a month or so ago, shining bright and calling my name among a sea of rusted junk. Hapewe meant nothing to me, but they felt nice and said 'Germany' so I bit. Found out they're worth a little something to Porsche collectors, felt proud of my find, then I promptly forgot about them.

I woke up early Monday morning so I straightened up my desk over coffee; found the pliers and threw them in my bag. Got to work, shot a little light oil into the joint, and they're awesome! Never been a fan of slip joint pliers, so I quickly came to prefer these over any I've ever used. They're tight like lineman's pliers, with a jaws like slip joint pliers and a pair of cutters. Here's a photo of the model I have:

The design is perfect, in my opinion, and I want more! But don't want to spend outrageously to get another pair like these. In searching, I'm coming up blank.

I have 3 pairs (at least) that are close to that, except they also have the lineman's side cutter as well as a slip joint jaws like yours. The heavy wire cutters on the sides as well. As you said, slip joint meets lineman's...

No names on these, but older and pretty decent quality. Channellock finish on them; no plating.

Those pliers came in the factory porsche roadside repair kits (found in the trunks) of the 911's 928' and 944's from the early 80's to the early 90's and a little later.

Not hard to find. Not expensive.

I have several spare sets of Porsche tools rolls with them in it but I'd hate to break them up.

Let me e-mail a local prosche 944 dismantler as he has a warehouse full of parts for resale. I can gaurantee a full whole or partial rolls are in there.

There are other tools like spark plug wrenchs, double open end metric combo wrenches and 4 in 1 or 6 in 1 German made screwdrivers that may make it worth it to buy the whole roll.

Again, they are not overly sought after and the 944's had them all day long.

Hey, if either of you guys wouldn't mind helping me out...I'd gladly return the favor somehow.

When I looked on ebay for another pair of Hapewes, they ranged 35-70. Prices don't look to have changed. I've paid that much for pliers before, but never used, you know.

Jeebus.

For that price I'd do new Knipex or NWS.

I was guessing I can get a whole Porsche late 80's factory tool roll with tools for $25 or $35 or less locally since they are so common.

That price for just the pliers is just insane. And NOT what the market price truely is on them.

I'll snap a pic this weekend of a Porsche tool roll so you know what to look for.

If you like that style and aren't concerned about the brand, you might be able to find a good quality pair in the tool kit that came w/ older (80's & 90's) BMW's. I picked up a similar pair from a wrecked BMW at a local junkyard.

I like the looks of them, for the inflated fleabay price it would be cheaper to buy new Knipex or NWS as shown above. It kinda funny how some ebay sellers don't look up the value and just guess way over the value.
