I recently ordered a Dayton 1F612 drill chuck while going down a rabbit hole on pin vises. It arrived defective, with improperly ground jaws that grabbed at the back and then canted over as it was tightened down. I didn't worry too much about it as I had already found a better option, but I couldn't bring myself to toss it. So it has been sitting on my desk, taunting me.
Yesterday I printed this:

This allows me to very precisely tighten the chuck around a diamond needle file from Harbor Freight, which just barely fits in the through-hole, like this:

I tightened the chuck until it barely grabbed the file. Then I tapped the file through, repeatedly, until it stopped grabbing. I tightened the chuck a bit, rinse and repeat.
After 5 or so cycles, each jaw point had been replaced with a small flat. The jaws grip uniformly and firmly, without canting over. I chucked a 4 inch long pin and spun it in my drill press, there is no visible runout. Success!
