Fixing a moen spray head button

I have a Moen swinden Model #: 87922SRS where the button for the higher flow sticks. I could replace the spray head, but anyone deal with trying to replace the spring mechanism or whatever is behind the top button?

I tried a flat edge to remove the spray from the housing but I can't seem to get it to grip since the spray protrudes just enough to prevent a flat tool to get enough grip between those little notches. Probably there is a special tool to unscrew the internal spray mechanism from the housing. It looks like I may be able to grab the button nub and either pull or twist, or possibly have a thin screwdriver to try to pry that white plastic out, without taking it out of the housing.

For now, I just pried the button from the spray head leaving the white plastic nub exposed so the wife can manually turn off the high flow feature. This is only two years old, so it feels like it's too early for a spring failure. There may be something I can spray or soak to help remove some hard water residue or rust, like CLR, vinegar, WD40.

Anyone mess with one of these to do spray head button repair?

Most Moen stuff is lifetime Warranty. I just got two new cartridges for the bathroom sink at my business. It has been abused for 20 years and I was fully expecting to pay for them. I sent an e-mail asking the price and they replied by sending me two for free :)

I have had mixed results with customer support, from long wait queues to get a person who has no clue (Dell is the worst), or solutions that require paying a tech person to resolve. Sounds like Moen may have a different quality of customer support, so I'll see what happens.

I see, so you would rather spend time on garage journal, a couple of days trying to resolve your problem but 15 minuets with Moen is too much.

I've had very good luck with Moen support. Takes a little while but they will get back to you and send you new parts for free. I had an oring go bad on mine but they didnt sell just the oring so they sent a whole spout.

I just fixed one of these that got plugged up with crud. You pry off the recessed lever (forget which end) and there's a single screw holding in the plastic cartridge. Then, a plastic circlip holding in the valve. New o-rings and silicone grease and all good now.

I too used to try to fix Moen stuff myself. Then my wife found the lifetime warranty. I still have to install the part, but Moen has been spot on for sending free parts out without question.

When I’ve called Moen, the only difficulty has been identifying whatever ancient faucet I bought 25+ years ago, because all of the model numbers and names have changed. Usually end up sending them a picture of it. Once identified, they send whatever parts “kit” is needed to fix it. On the kitchen faucet, a single plastic ring broke, and the “kit” was essentially the entire working guts of the faucet, plus a new cartridge, just in case.

I'm not sure if the gf faucet is a Moen but I had to take the sprayer apart to do something to it because it was getting stuck. Search YouTube and there are a bunch of videos on it if it's the same thing.

Youtube is usually my first go to for this kind of stuff. I found some Moen spray disassembly videos that were close, but the techniques used didn't quite apply to my model. Looks like there is a protruding circle with 4 gaps that you can put a tool on to unscrew the wand interior from its housing and then get better access to the buttons. I haven't been able to discover that tool. A plain straight edge doesn't work, doesn't get enough depth to avoid camming out.

I could probably fabricate a tool out of aluminum flat bar by cutting out a notch so that I can get in those notches in the circle but avoid the protruding spray outlet.

May still give repair a try once I get the replacement in place to have spare parts.
