Try to find one of those little wedges that get hammered into the top. If it's a wood handle I would soak the head in water a bit to prevent the wood from splitting.

Turn it upside down (head towards the ground), and use another hammer to strike the bottom of the handle. This will cause the head to seat itself deeper on the handle, then use the wedges shown in the previous post to set it in place. You may need to trim the excess wood form the handle that will stick up from the top of the head.

You can also thump the handle end on the concrete and it will do the same thing, if it's your only hammer! :)

On Edit: That means that you thump the very end of the handle, with the head pointing straight up. I can just see someone banging the side of the end of the handle on the ground while thinking "What the hell was that idiot thinking, this isn't working"!:lol_hitti

I wouldn't reccomend soaking in water but I have had some luck soaking in boiled linseed oil. The linseed oil wont dry out as fast as water.
