Fixing a small submersible pump

Does anyone here have experience fixing small submersible pumps? I have an old one that was used hard and sucked up dirt. It sat for a few years and became jammed after the dirt caked in. While taking it apart for cleaning, I also took out the motor and found it to be in its own chamber with an antifreeze type fluid. It's time to get it put back together now that everything is cleaned up. Unfortunately, I have no idea what that fluid was. Does anyone had an idea? Can I use antifreeze?

Yea, the oil is for cooling. Usually, you don't ever need to replace this oil unless it leaked out then the seal needs to be replaced too. If the motor turns free and the electrical connections are good but won't start when plugged in it might be burned up.

It's a small 1/4 hp or so that you can connect a garden hose to.

I picked up some mineral oil and it's back and running. I'm a little disappointed in the pressure as I was hoping to be able to water my yard with the water being pumped out my above ground pool. I think there's a new higher pressure pump waiting for me at Home Depot....

thanks for the info guys.
