Fixing an Ultrasonic

I have an older Ultrasonic cleaner that I am wondering if it fixable.
It seems that the ceramic discs (transducers?) have crack a LONG time ago, but now there is wire that has come off. Is this unit fixable? Or can I mount new discs/transducers? If so how and what frequency?

Toss it and pick up one of the Chinese units for around $150.

You'd need to find a transducer that would be a good match for the tank and ensure the amplifier is tuned to it's exact reasonant frequency. Then you'd have to bond it to the tank using a special silver epoxy and hope the bond doesn't fail.

If these units are not precisely tuned to work as a team (tank, transducer and amplifier) then it'll be ineffective.

I worked at a place that sold them. If a customer blew the transducers, they would just replace the whole tank. I've never seen the bare disks sold separately, but anything is possible these days with China making everything.

The ceramic material is barium titanate. If you put power to it, it minutely changes shape. Conversely, if you smack it (like a spark lighter), it will generate a pulse of electricity.
Glue it to a tank, pulse power to it in the kHz range, and you have an ultrasonic cleaner.

they do sell "ultrasonic transducers" on ebay... but you'll have to find out the drive frequency and power to buy the replacement.If that is worth it for you.

Most quality transducers use a couple metal mases with the crystals sandwiched in between them. Those are very cheap looking bonded crystals, most general cleaning is done at 40 kHz. If the company was still in business you might be able to purchase them and bond them yourself with some aircraft epoxy.
