Hey folks,

Driveway is 2 years old and has few spots where small pieces of concrete seems to have chipped off.

Also unfortunately, I recently had the driveway plowed  and you see an area with chipping concrete?

How do I fix this properly and do I need to fix those individual chips or not?

Thanks

It's really hard to see from the pictures but this looks like spalling from too much water being added to the concrete after it was placed or overworking the concrete. I presume it will just continue to happen and I don't know of anything you can do to "repair" it that won't look terrible. I'd just leave it be.

They are probably what are unsurprisingly called pop outs. There are various kinds of materials that get mixed in with the course aggregate when it is mined that swell when exposed to water and/or freezing conditions. The swelling causes the aggregate to pop out leaving a little divot. Different areas of the country experience varying degrees of the problem depending on local aggregate source.

The problem will likely subside as all the aggregate reacts that is going to. You can patch them with a quality repair mortar with good results. Ardex CD matches the color of concrete around here.

That's my opinion too that they worked all the cream to the surface.

I have 10,000 sqft of concrete driveway and have only few such spots so I would highly doubt about concrete quality. If my memory serves me right, the concrete was 4500 psi and over all after 2-1/2 years it's still great looking with out any cracks.

Searched the issue on line and sure enough, looks like they are indeed concrete pop-outs.

I have repaired by cleaning out area and removing soft material that caused popout, then brush with concrete primer (bonding agent) and fill with a fairly dry mortar mixture
