Fixture Troubles with Good Outcome

Went to HD#1 yesterday to buy 17 two-bulb 4' T8 standard wrap fixtures for my garage. They showed 8 in stock, but couldn't get to them because they were locked in an outside storage container while they remodeled the lighting aisle. They said I could get 12 of the fixtures from HD#2 across town and then pick up the remainder on Thursday or Friday when HD#1's light aisle was reconfigured. I agreed and started over to HD#2. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately in the long run), it had begun snowing and roads were too slick to attempt a drive across town and back. I called HD#2 and told them I'd be in tomorrow (today) to get the lights. They said no problem since those fixtures weren't fast sellers. Wouldn't you know it, by the time I got to HD#2 at lunchtime today, some contractor had taken all the standard wrap fixtures they had, plus all the ones from HD#1.

The sales associate at HD#2 apologized profusely for not marking the fixtures as 'on hold' for me and convinced his manager to sell me premium wrap fixtures for the same price as the standard wraps. They only had 11 on hand so they even arranged for me to get the other 6 from HD#1 at the lower price also!

Bottom line: I got all my T8 Premium Wrap fixtures (stronger lens & 120/277v ballasts) for $32.97 each rather than their normal price of $48.47! Alot of hassle, but I feel pretty happy about it. That's what I call a great customer service recovery from HD! :rocker:

Glad to hear it. I also had a good experience at home depot last week. They had a sign saying 10% off all custom order windows and doors (and garage doors on the sign). Turns out the garage doors weren't supposed to be on sale. They honored the price for me without any issue, but I did have to come a day later when a manager with the right authority was there to alter the price.

They also "honored" the price of the drywall I bought when it rang up $3 more a sheet than the sign said. They went over and ripped the sign down. The funny thing is that the sign was correct and matched the home depot online price. They had the original sign back up the next day, hopefully they fixed it in their system so the next person didn't go through the same thing.

Stories like this are why the Big Boxes stay in business...Local outfits like electric supply, etc will always respond with "oh, sorry about that, we'll have more in next Tuesday" type response.

Certian things I prefer the local guys for, other things Big Box all the way. Theres more then enough room in any town for the two to co-exist peacefully.
