(Edit: Oops! I just realized I had already introduced myself previously!)
Howdy, y'all! This forum rocks!
I'm in the planning stages of adding a 637 sq. foot L-shaped block-built man-castle to my existing single-story home in St. Petersburg, FL.
We previously converted the existing one-car garage into a master bath and storage area, and have been living garage-less for 8 years.
I currently have to store all my **** in a 12' x 16' wooden shed that I built myself a few years back.
When the garage gets built, the shed is going to be cut in half and moved to a new location to create an art studio for my live-in mother-in-law. (don't cringe, she's pretty cool!)
Going rate around here from GC's for a finished, single-story garage is (I hear) about $85 a square foot. That's stucco over block.
Our current plan includes a double overhead (16') and a single overhead (8') door, two regular doors and two windows, scissor trusses, and minimal electrical work, and a GC I've used before quoted me around $42,000. Adding a couple thou for miscellaneous, that still comes in around $70 a sq. foot.
That sounds really reasonable to me and we're getting excited about pulling the trigger! Any caveats/pitfalls/traps to avoid?
Any advice from the awesome, creative folks on this board would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
