I finished this just in time for Christmas.

I built a display case for my father's veteran burial flag.
Made of walnut and given to my mother so she could display it.
The finish is shellac and wax.

The miters on this one kept me on my toes for an exacting fit.

Thanks for looking

Very nice work!

Considering dressing it up with any medals your Dad was awarded during his service, years of service, insignia for his branch of service and any units he was in, etc.

If you like making this stuff, go to the funeral homes in your area and show them what you can do. If you do nice work and they like what you do, they will likely send families of deceased servicemen your way. You can work with the families to make a truly lasting memory of the veteran's service to his or her country.

Very nice. I had a hard time finding a quality case for my fathers flag.

You can add a medal display box at the bottom of the triangle

Nicely done, gasgt1,

My brother in law made a nice one for his dad's flag, even including the casings from the rifle salute in the display.

Outstanding work on your case. A nice tribute. A couple of people asking about buying high quality cases. I was stationed at Camp Smith Hawaii, when I pcs'd back to the mainland, my officers gave me a triangular box, of Koa wood, made by the Fleet Petty Officers Association at Pearl. The Flag had been flown over the Arizona on Sept 11 2004. Anyone wanting to buy one, maybe contact them.

Lots of GREAT ideas here. Flag, medals, honor guard shell casings. Could even include the DD-214.

Like I said, I think there is a business opportunity for someone who wants to make these and sell them through the local funeral directors. Your local funeral director would rather offer the families something made locally (maybe out of local woods) than something from Timbuktu.

Actually if you got something from Timbuktu you'd be pretty impressed with the quality of the workmanship. My team leader got a set of grips made for his M9/92FS with two different ebony Timbuktu crosses inlayed into them while he was there.

But back to the thread. That's an awesome box OP.

Great project and thanks for sharing. This is one I want to do... my grandma has my grandfathers flag sitting in my moms basement, I want to build something nice to display it in.
