Flakes on step?

As I await the arrival of the products I ordered, I am planning my project so I can get it started as soon as possible.

I was curious to know how people feel about applying vinyl flakes to the step leading in/out of the house from the garage.

My parents had an epoxy floor installed several years ago (still looks great), and they put the color coat on the step, but not the flakes. The reason being visual issues with missing or tripping on the step.

I was just wondering if this is a thing or just an abundance of caution due to my parent's age.

Thanks

Totally up to you. If you live in a wet/snowy/icy area you may not want to do it. If you choose to, I'd personally only use polyurea as its UV resistance is superior. Also, backroll anti-slip aggregate into the last coat.

I did mine, this picture shows it. It seemed like the right way to do it, and never made me think twice about the decision yet.c9b4d446dffe6da8090177cf60e2fc12.jpg

Thanks for the input. I intended to cover the step, as I think it will look better. Based on your comments, it seems the pros outweigh any potential cons. Thank you.

I can see a concern with regards to optical illusions with all the flakes causing one to miss judge a step out of their peripheral vision. With that said. I would still flake the steps, but add a paint stripe along the leading edges of the steps. I did this with plain pine stairs and it makes a world of difference and keeps the stairs from bleeding together.
