This is a stupid question but my angle grinder came with flap discs. I have no idea what these are for?

What are the uses of flap discs?

If what you describe is what I think it is, they are awesome for prepping an area for welding. Like removing paint, rust, etc. They are also great for putting the finishing touch on welds once you are finished if you need it to look good. Basically any sort of sanding or light grinding you need to do on metal. I love them and always have them handy!

They are similar to the ones in that video except they are round. They look like layered sections of gritty material arranged in a circle.

they are for welding preperation removing paint grinding any area where you do not want to remove lots of material

Some even use them for ''polishing''

flap wheels is between a sanding disk and wire wheel. less abrasive than a sanding disk, better finish yet it does remove materials fairly quickly.

for removing paing/powder coat, welding spatter, I prefer wire wheel because it's faster and less abrasive, more importantly, the paint will gum up the flap disk.
