Flare fitting issues

I'm removing a Perkins (British) diesel, and capping off oil and fuel lines. The fuel lines are flare, but a 3/8 flare cap is tooo big and a 1/4" flare cap is toooo small. This circa 1981 motor is all SAE... I think. What fitting does an early 80's CAV fuel filter/lift pump use? 5/16" flare???? Any idea where I can buy those locally (CT), or do I need to get them on line?

Try your local Parker store. They seem to be everywhere.
Parker Hannifin fittings. Known as PH.

Check and make sure its not a 45 degree flare. Im not positive but i think theres only 37 and 45 degree flare not SAE or metric. And theres only two sizes of 45 degree -6 and -12 i believe and making and guess on you sizes you just gave i would be almost certain its a -6

Once upon a time, I was on det in England. We had minimum stuff that we could

carry with us. One of the aircrafts' O2 system was minimal for flight, and we decided

to try to top it off. We were at an RAF base, and had plenty of Brit help, but try as

we might, there were no adapters to be found that would fit our airplane. So much

for NATO... Moral of the story; you may have some trouble trying to find a fitting

here in the states to fit your Brit engine. I would try to find a Perkins dealer.

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
Fittings will almost certainly be 45 degree SAE (either ball or inverted). Threads will most likely be either UNF (last CAV filter head I bought had UNF threads in the fluid ports) with an inverted flare in the filter head (ball flare on the pipe) or BSP (maybe around 1/4 size).
If the original injector pump has been changed to something like a Bosch, you may find that the fittings have been changed to metric.

Hope thats of some help.
