Flash light addict

Hey everyone, am I the only one? This past week I have bought four flash/work lights. Gee whiz. All of them are LED lights, two are battery operated and two are rechargeable. Two are pocket type cob lights I got at the parts counter where I work and then I got a rechargeable one from Cornwell and one from Snap On. I need the light a lot for what I do so it's not like I'm just buying them to buy them, they will get used. I don't know, I'm sort of a sucker for lights. I did pass on a rechargeable Streamlight pen light that the Snap On guy was selling yesterday for $80 dollars!

I have a streamlight protac 2a that I keep in my laptop bag and a Preon P1 that I keep on my belt in a sheath all the time. Outside of that its junker flashlights all over the house.

I finally got to where I refuse to buy a non recharging light as I have a terrible habit of leaving them on. I'm also a fan of the ones that use a micro USB charger like for cell phones as I have a puppy that munched the special charger to one light while bored in the service truck!

I didn't know either till a few days ago. Was down the flash light isle to get the free flashlight when I spotted them. Sold on the fact they aren't number battery cell specific. Kind of expensive at $9 each, about a third the cost of a new LED Maglight, but with the coupon, it knocks it down a bit. Need a couple more to convert the rest.

I was on candlepower forum regularly about 8 years ago or so. Started with an original single mode surefire E1L outdoorsman, still have the second dual mode I traded it for.
Converted a few 3-D mags with 700 lumen Cree LEDs and special billet aluminum mounts.
Also had a surefire U2 and modded up 6P but lost both!
I now use a few jetbeams, zebralight headlamps (I have 3), a novatac 120P, and a couple streamlight microstreams.

Edit: forgot to mention I have a muyshondt aeon on my keychain at all times

I like lights. Have a few Zebralights, Black Diamonds, Nebos, Surefires, Princeton, etc.
When you need them it's good to have them!

Lol, I'm glad I'm not alone. I have four of these, two at home and at work Snap On swivel lights, they are awesome and rechargeable with the USB port chargers, 350 lumens. I just got my fourth one on Friday in addition to the three other lights I bought this week.

Wouldn't a small flashlight that is lighter, with say a magnet on the **** end, that's rechargeable be more useful?

Can you guys who have done the *** change operation on your Mag Lites "enlighten me".

I bought this Streamlight LED pen light. Two AAA batteries, very bright & long lasting on the batteries. Best of all it's on/off or momentary on by pressing the button lightly...NO STROBING function.... I hate that stupid strobing function on my other Cree lights. Should also mention I use it all the time at estate sales and garage sales.

I just bought a coast HP7 at el cheapo de depot last month. Used it for hunting and was impressed. Only drawback is it doesnt have a way to keep the mode and isnt a momentary on so you gotta click on and off to swap modes.

I have petzl headlamps, fenix, olights, streamlights, surefires, etc. My biggest complaint is I dont like CR123 batteries. They are easier to find now (wasnt always the case) but they are annoying cause only the flashlights seem to use them really. Meanwhile I got that coast HP7 cause I saw it used AAA batteries which are way easier to find overall and everyone has some laying around.

The best flashlight in the world is the one that you can reach when you need it. Expensive tactical lights like Surefire are great but it's worthless if you have to run back to your desk or vehicle when you need it. Many years ago, my employer purchased tactical lights for everyone in the office. They went for something like $300 a pop. Crazy expensive and crazy bright but nobody carried them because they didn't want to ruin their expesive light on a job. So everyone just left them sitting unused on their desk. Then they started mysteriously to walk off people's desks. It was nuts. A few years went by and the 9/11 attacks happened. We heard all kinds of stories about people being buried and trapped by rubble inside the buildings that came down. My employer assembled little bail out bags for each employee to use in the event of an emergency. They were really well though out little kits which had everything from emergency drinking water to work gloves and tools you might need in an emergency. Oh and more tactical lights. 3 of them in each kit. Small, medium and large. It was the same situation all over, again. Nobody actually carried the lights because everyone wanted to save them for their emergency kit. Most of the time when someone needed a light for something it wasn't within easy reach because it was in their kit. It was comical because we had an office filled with thousands of dollars worth of the best flashlights that were available at the time yet very few of them were ever ready to go. Then, one year after I had been promoted to be the boss and we had a few bucks to purchase some gear for everyone I suggested small keychain lights made by Fenix. There were lots of eyerolls from my colleagues and I was reminded of all the previous flashlight failures we had had but I stuck to my guns and argued that the little lights I was proposing were small enough to attach to a keychain so everyone would be carrying them all the time. Long story short, we purchased a hundred of the things and within a few weeks the big boss mentioned at a meeting that his little light was the single most useful light he had ever had. Pretty soon everyone was chiming in about how great it was to have the tiny lights always available. Next thing you know we ordered a couple hundred more. Now they are a stocked item in our office and everyone from the admin staff to the people out in the field carry them. Definitely not the brightest lights in the world but way better than the light thats sitting on your sesk when you need it. I do still think there's a need for ultra bright tactical type lights but for 80%of what my office uses lights for, the little single AAA battery Fenix keychain light is enough.

Those are one of my favorites that use a micro USB charger. I had a nice pen light that also used a micro USB, but I lost it, I think it was Coast, but may have been stream light.

I bought the baddest flash light he had on the truck one day, like 1100 lumens and it came with a 2 cradles to recharge, one AC and one DC. Put one in the shop and one in the service truck

-I also have a defiant brand tactical 1AA LED from el casa de cheapo, 7 bucks and since it was so cheap I keep it in my pocket. Decent runtime and its so cheap I dont care if I lose or break it

I love my LED maglites. I have 3 in my desk a few more at work, and one in a couple cars. I wouldn't convert one, but the ML300L?? is exceptionally bright and pretty light and durable.

Well, here goes.

I kinda like my old fashioned D cell Maglights and rather than pitch them in the trash I figured I'd up grade to the LED for a few bucks. The old bulbs were pathetic. The weight of a hand held flashlight is of no concern to me. Like most guys here I got quite a few different kinds of flashlights.

You'll have to enlighten yourself because me/we telling you it's better might not convince you. I'm happy with the results. Will they last? Who knows, too early to tell.

I have no rechargeable flashlights, but I do have some rechargeable batteries. Do those count?

ThruNite Catapults here, and yes, I spent an inordinate amount of time on the candlepower forums learning about throw vs lumens vs..... There are even more powerful ones in their tests, but these were expensive enough for me.
They do get a lot of comments when I'm out camping. Nothing like lighting up a cliff face across the Colorado river lol.

You know what ? I think I'm an addict also. With out counting I bet I got 30. Got almost every mag model that came out. They were to slow to come out with the LED so I bought other ones. At home now I use the Milwaukee 18 V recharge most of the time. If I need something a little more compact I use my UK led with the belt clip. We use the UK at work also and I have a drawer full of parts. Guys come to me if they need parts , bulbs belt clips, hard hat clips etc. It's funny that something that you wanted as a kid now you have 10 x as many you need when your an adult. I can say that about other things as well, like bench Vises. BCD

Remember the black and decker snake light? Got it. How about the home hardware clamp light? Got it. All the different mag light colours, got them too. Also the Ray-o-vac sportsman, the stainless ones , got them too, 2D and 3 D sizes. There will be more coming as I look around. Haha this is fun. BCD

very similar to rharman cat light. I really like this EZ red cob led pocket light. Relatively cheap, bright and fairly durable. I use it all the time. The leds are a newer generation led called cob which was new to me.

I too love a good light. Plenty of brightness, quality kelvin temperature, and long run time is what gets me.


What I almost loathe, is having a cheap button that you have to cycle between hi, lo, strobe, a smaller flashlight on the end............also placing top dollar on the cashiers counter and not knowing if it is expensive junk makes me apprehensive to actually become an addict.


But I do like those blue rectangles from HF, they are quite nice, have a magnet, put out a good beam.....



To be honest, the only light I can think of That really impressed me was a ac/dc rechargeable cordless Black-and Decker LED. It had an orange casing and I think why it was so cool was that I put alot of hours on it- so it would run quite a while and was bright, I think, because, I 'broke it in' by letting it run all night!

It came with 2 rechargeable Lithium Ion 18650 batteries and a charger. This thing is crazy bright.

One issue, the charger didn't seem to work and made weird noises, so I tossed it and picked up a different (higher quality) charger.

I tried doing the *** change on a couple of the 2 AA Maglites. Maybe it's the make of the LED itself, but the thing is too dim to matter much.

I had a 4 D Maglite in the truck for years. Pretty much every winter the Ds die. Then at some point I need the light & don't have it. Then the last time I pulled the light out, it was corroded to the point that I couldn't get it open without scarring it up with some channel locks. So I pitched it.

Recently picked up one of these Slyde flashlight/work lights... with the magnetic base. Runs on 4 AAA batteries. And it's unreal how bright the thing is. Makes all my Maglites look like junk. Time will tell how the batteries in it do, but so far this winter it's been great.
