I'm almost loath to post this, because it's so extravagant, but I really do love this LED Lenser M17R flashlight...I just can't recommend in good conscience that anyone in their right mind pay the $300 for it:

Here's my Triple XM-L2 on a copper Noctigon PCB I put together over the summer using an FET driver for maximum oomph. Puts out around 1900 lumens, and gets too hot to handle after around a minute on max. AR coated lens as well.

Is light akin to sound?

Like, what if I took ten 1000 lumen lights and pitted them against one light with 10000 lumens.....? Would the one be brighter since it may be more intense?

Also, is there anything manmade that is brighter than a 1000w HPS or metal halide?

Hello guys.

Im am not a addict :)

I have a LED LENSER M7R flashlight.

First I used it on my work as an inspector on surface treatment. (About 4-5 hrs a day)

Today we just use it when we are on a walk with the dog or similar.
I think it is very handy, and I bought it because of its cool way of chargeing.

After 2 years of use, the battery is not that good any more. Normally it had battery enough for 3-4 hrs at maximum, now its only about 1hr before it starts indicating its time for new juice.

Here is some pictures.

I know some friends of mine using it for "paintball" games during night. Where they put it on the scope.

I also tried it for mountain biking once. 400 lumens is just not enough.

For biking I got a similar to this:

I'm a sucker for old flashlights (e.g. Ray-O-Vac Sportsman), heck, I'm a sucker for pretty much anything old.

I do own a few LED Maglites which (along with my revolver) are my go-to "bump in the night" tool(s) of choice.

huge flashlight head here, unfortunately the counterfeit CREE LEDs are really putting a damper on my enjoyment of the low end stuff. I would say 75-80% (maybe a tad high but certainly higher than 50%) of the sub-$10 stuff now contains fake LEDs.

Try http www.batteryjunction.com I find Surefire and Streamlight to be way overpriced. Nice but too much. I have Nitecore, Klarus, and Sunwayman. Subscribe and wait for the deals. If you are patient you can score some incredible deals there. Also try http://www.illumn.com/ good luck with that site as well.

I did the LED upgrade to my 18v DeWalt and it was a good spend of $30. What an improvement!

Sometimes the first "hit" is all you need to get started. Thorfire PF01 in my EDC pocket organizer.

I like flashlights but don't consider myself an addict. I'm addicted to many other things though. Lights are important in my line of work and I've come to respect Streamlight as good solid lights. I recently played around with a coworker's Surefire Lawman. An awesome light for sure, but damn, $400.00 awesome?? I don't think so.

I recently came into possession of a bunch of lights that were included in some auction lots I won. The PO was a flashlight and knife addict. One of the lights is pretty cool. Apparently it was able to be extended by adding as many extra sections as one wanted. It's a D cell and was designed to be used primarily by law enforcement, security, fire, etc. It's beautifully machined aluminum.

I built my father a nice flashlight using a solarforce l2 host. Also bought a nitecore i4 charger and 18650 batteries. Going to start building another few soon as the hosts and drop in are so cheap for such good quality you really cant go wrong.

We've also bought an ir drop in to use as an illuminator for our night vision scope.

I sold all my Ryobi stuff to a friend and I am missing my 3 Ryobi lights (lantern, 2 flashlights) that worked with the 18 volt batteries.

I am now in the Dewalt 20 volt lithium system but haven't bought any flashlights yet. I could've used one a few times in the last week alone.

Quick heads up for those still running Surefire incandescent lights, my dealer informed me the other day that Surefire is discontinuing all of the incandescent light assemblies, I was able to get 2 MN20 and 2 MN21 for my M6 - which results in 3 MN20 and 3 MN21 with the two I still had... And thats going to be it. Not that it wasn't long overdue and I saw it coming, but since I started with SF incandescent lights I feel a little melancholy today.

Kind regards,
Oliver

You can get LED conversions from Malkoff that will make more light than the incandescent ones and double your run time. I have a C3 and a shotgun forend unit using them.

Surefire is all I use. I have many, many, many Surefire lights!

Don't tell my wife.......

If the power goes out, she'll be happy. I was out visiting my sister on the coast and they lost power for 5 days. I had just given the boys (2 days before the power went out) 10 silly little HF LED flashlights with rechargeable batteries in them. They were all put to use.

My EDC light is a Fenix LD22. I also have a Black Diamond head lamp and the Snap On rechargable magnet light in my tool cart.

I've got a few other Fenix lights and a Surefire 6P in my night stand.

I can't find any reference to this anywhere online. Did the dealer say where that information came from?

Malkoff Lights. End of story. USA made by one guy. No questions asked lifetime warranty.

You can get conversions for your large Maglights but for the price I'd recommend the Malkoff 16650 kit:

https://malkoff-devices.myshopify.com/collections/malkoff-led-flashlights/products/mdc-turnkey-neutral-xp-l-2cr123

You can choose between the warm--which is more color accurate-- or the cooler which is slightly brighter but less color accurate. With the kit you get everything you need to rock and roll--light, battery, charger. You can use this light as a hammer and Gene Malkoff will replace it. I once left it on high near a piece I was MIG welding. Lens got messed up. Gene sent me a new one next day.

My favorite by far is the M91BW with a MD3 body and a high/low ring but without a charger and 18500 batteries it can be quite an investment.

I know this is a little outside what you guys are talking about, but, I am a little more into the utility of lights. I'm sure you'll laugh at my contribution, but The following light has been invaluable to me. With the magnet and multi-directional adjustment and wide beam its incredibly useful. I use to to mount to the bottom side of the hood of a car, and mount it to the top corner of my creeper when under the car.

I have the free HF lights all over the place. THey're the only lights that I can always count on finding. Recently working on my son's beater Ford Ranger, welding on a replacement cat. Stuck one of the 27 LED blue HF freebies to the frame rail for some underbody light. Finished up for the night, and came back to the job the next evening after work, crawled under the truck and was surprised to see a lot of light in the normally dark spaces. The light was on for about 24 hours and still putting out decent light. (Nothing great, I know).
