Is anyone familiar enough with flashback arrestors to answer a question? I got two sets at a garage sale and both look to be new, in original packaging. Both are Western Enterprises, one set is FA-10 torch style and the other is FAU-230 which appear to be regulator style. But I'm not getting any gas flow with either set....do these go bad with age? Is there any fixing these units or just replace? I only paid a few dollars for both sets so it's no big loss...any suggestions would be most appreciated...thanks...Lance

Flashback arrestor 'guts' are sort of just a mesh screen.

But those Western flashback arrestors also include internal check valves. The valves might have gotten 'stuck'.

Or there's crud inside the units (dust, mud, insects, rodents, mud daubers, etc).

Kind of hard to install those units backwards, because one end is male threads and the other is female threads.

Call Western customer service at 800-783-7890 and ask them.

O.k. - I don't know the specific parts you are referring to, but these things can work in different ways. Some require positive pressure from the cylinder and need to be 'reset' by turning on the cylinder then pushing the thing till you hear gas in the hose! All my propane arrestors work that way!

Actually, some can be installed backward.
C.M. on a site made us get arrestors, and told my guy that it had to be installed at the regulator. They were meant to go at the torch. Didn't work until he took a drill and cleaned them out. Creative, but....
Which is why you have to supervise laborers.
