Flashlight - Bright as the sun

Im wondering if anyone has any suggestion on a rediculously birght flashlight?

This may be an odd post, but Im hoping someone here has a suggestion...

Really depends on cost and batteries that you want to use. I am in search and rescue and I really love the 4Sevens Quark AA2. 200 lumens on Max is pretty good. Can't really help if you want to use other batteries since I focused on lightweight and on a slightly cheaper side. Candlepowerforum should give you all the info you could ever need on flashlights.

A price point would be helpful, because those cheapo flashlights at lowes that are like $6 for 5 LED flashlights w/ batteries is a great deal, but not if you want a high quality light.

It depends how much you want to spend. I was playing with one light, I can't remember the brand, at the gun show in the George R. Brown convention center, that you could shine all the way to the other end of the lighted hall and damn near burn a hole in the wall at the end. I think it had a 6" diameter lens and was 12" to 14" long. It was $400, though.

Geez! i have a 20 lumen light and a 75 lumen light for camping and such, what do you need a 7000 lumen light for? You could cook a steak under that in a few minutes.

I have been buying the 6 volt flashlights at the check out counter at Home Depot for about $3.50 this year. I now have 3 of them. They work pretty good. When the battery goes bad, I renew it with an Energizer for about $7.00. Then it is a great flashlight. The little 3" halogen type flashlights at Tractor Supply are pretty night and light up the backyard pretty decent. $3.95. They take three AA batteries. I carry one around the house at night instead of turning on lights everywhere I go.

I thought I was probably the only one that used a flashlight instead of turning on lights...

I carry an old 1W LED flashlight in a belt holster. It is not very bright but it has a nice tight beam to help find things. I carry one of those freebie HF 9-LED flashlights (came with batteries!!) around the house also.

LED lights are MUCH easier on batteries unless a person goes nuts and buys one of those $$$uper-bright tactical lights or even some of the other very bright lights. Some of those things take high $$ batteries. I prefer the HF unit that takes 3 AAA or my other old 1W light which takes 2 AA. Those batteries are cheap and readily available. I do need to get another pair of rechargeable AA's tho.

I use my Timex INDIGLO feature when I don't want to wake the wife in the middle of the night. Beats the heck out of trying to find a flashlight when I need to pee at 2am...it's always on my left wrist!

Check out 4Sevens if you want a high quality flashlight. I have been carrying around the 4Sevens Quark AA2 daily for about 10 months now. Flashlight has held up to all kinds of abuse at work and it still looks and works great!

I think 4Sevens is at the top of the chain when it comes to LED technology. Keep in mind that their lumen ratings are rated "out the front". Kinda like horsepower "at the wheels".

Do you want rechargable? If your going to use it every day...that is the way to go...but it it's going to sit for periods of time...go with regular batteries...NiCad's will self drain.

My primary flashlights are rechargable...they get a lot of use...I converted my maglight to LED....not quite as bright as the Streamlight....but lasts a lot longer on a charge...like 5x longer.

I also have a small Stinger light....does a real good job.

HF has the small LED lights on sale all the time...something like 2 for $3...we have those all over the place...couple in the wifes soccermobile, I have a couple in the jeep...and a couple around the house.....especially near outside doors.

Here is a real rugged one that I have been using for about 6 months now. It is only $17 and the only place that I have seen it for sale is at your local Target store. The aluminum case is very thick and well built, looks like you could drive a truck over it. It is a 1 watt LED that only uses 1 AA battery. This Utube review talks about not getting it wet which I have never done. It is used mainly for getting around the house at night w/o turning a bunch of lights on and waking up my wife. When your eyes are 65 years old it's also useful for projects and taking things apart and putting them back together. The main things that I like about it are that its small and fits well in a pocket and it takes only 1 AA battery and its extremely bright. Keep in mind that this is only a $17 flashlight so it probably will not please the die hard flashlight collector. To me its a great buy.

We had some in Iraq that were the HIDs, forget the name right now though, Nighthunter or something like that. We used them to light up targets over 5km away! We used to put the IR filter on it and play light sabers at night with NVGs on. Always wondered what the guys in aircraft thought when they saw that in the sky!

As you can tell from the replies, I think you need to be a bit more specific on what you plan on using the light for. I have a Fenix TK11 that I use as bump in the night nightstand light. At 220 or so it has the power to light up the yard through the window. However, it is too bright to be usable for everyday stuff.

So there are some really cool ICON LEDs that PK is continually introducing into the market. Real bargains considering who is behind these:

Stargeezer, being a flashaholic, can you tell me what happened to pentagon lights. I ad the l2 for 5 years or so and it grew legs, when i went to get a new one, the co. was gone. They were nice lights, the fit and finish on them was unsurpassed.

Flashlight or spotlight? For "regular" work I have 2 LED 4-cell Maglites, one 6-cell conventional Maglite (which easily doubles as a weapon).

I also have 3 Stanley HIDs, which are awesome but only last about 20-30 minutes on a charge. The brightness they produce for $70 is pretty much unbeatable.
