This Cree LED flashlight works great. Light weight, simple on off, does not get hot, and very inexpensive. $3.50 on Amazon. I have mine at work for over a year now. Plus the flood to spot adjustment is very quick handy.

I hate having to scroll through the different levels of light output or strobe just to turn it back off.

Yes. This sipik knockoff is awesome for a cheapo flashlight.

You are not wrong, but the 18650 battery charges seperately than the flashlight. You can simply have one on the charger and one in the light (it's what I do here at work).

This is what I do also, have a backup(s) at all times. Just the same as having extra AA's in the drawer.;)

I use this as my EDC, (I see they are out at the moment), and has tremendous output for it's size. I run the 18650 battery in it.

I have one of these on the headboard and it takes two 18650's.

You do not want to be looking into either one of these lights when you turn them on!

I like this goinggear website as they do a lot of videos to show you the difference between the lights and their output.

I have even changed out the three Maglite's I have over to the LED conversions you can buy at Lowes. Nicer out put for a spot light but lose some of the flood, and the 3 D cells last forever. With the BC 40 on sale, I might order another one! Nice sturdy light. Don't think I'll but another incandescent bulb flashlight again.

The Pelican 2360 is an awesome light and is bright as all of my Streamlights and Surefires. Something I like the most is that it runs off of 1.5 V AA batteries. I get tired of trying to find good, cheap CR123 batteries.

Anyone have a favorite flashlight? Or one they have on a wish list?
I have a few 3 cell mag lights LED but they are big, heavy and not as bright as some that I have seen that are half the size.

So I'm looking for something lighter, brighter and smaller. Mainly used around the house/shop may even come along on camping trips. Any suggestions, pics...

Thanks guys!

Ok guys I wanted to bring this back up since I found something last night. Since I think most of us have an older Maglite laying somewhere around home, garage or in a vehicle, I found a cheap upgrade.

While combing the Home Depot site last night, I stumbled on to a conversion. I know the LED conversion has been around but last time I checked prices, it was about cheaper to buy a new LED Maglite.

While this isn't a LED kit, it is a Xenon bulb. I'm not sure how long the batteries will last but I think the life of the bulb will be great. I have a Xenon bulb in my Pelican at the FD, it's about 11 ears old and I think I have changed it once.

Here's the kicker, the conversion kit is less than $3.00 and I bought three tonight. After installing it and comparing it to the older bulb, it's a well worthwhile upgrade.

Now please keep in mind, there are different kits.

This one is for 2 cell C or D lights.

4 cell C or D lights,

for the Mini Maglite owners, here are Xenon bulbs.

Hope this helps get more life out of your older lights. ;)

I have an LED Lenser P7 and love it, four AAAA's and its way brighter than my three D cell maglite ever was. Also came with a little single AAA light and thats awesome too.

Trust me. Raid your car's ashtray and pull together $3.55 and go buy this flashlight. This little booger will impress you. Lots of the torch-head folks rave about their value. It's almost Christmas, so I'd recommend you buy a few as gifts.

Another vote for FourSevens here. Their customer service is excellent and sent me a replacement head in no time for my light that went bad. I also have one of the style posted above that I got from DX.com. It does not have the gimmicky zoom but instead a very tight beam (works perfectly on my AR) and can use AA or cr123. I had a few of the one posted above and just couldn't get over the dumb square beam when up close. I gave them all away as gifts.

I also have this one which I carry every day. Output with normal 3v cr123 batteries is ok, but with the rechargeable 3.6v it is excellent.

Wait... what - did you not read what I stated?

There are many solutions to a problem, man. The simple solution to your concern is to buy several 18650 batteries. Your friend didn't buy the proprietary $$$ Streamlight battery is for a reason but he should've researched before buying. One man's mistake is not another man's problem; that's what you're projecting.
I don't think I'm missing anything. I have lots of friends in the automotive business who have Streamlights and other expensive rechargeables from the tool trucks. It never fails, time and time again, halfway through the job the light dies. Once it's dead, it's 3+ hours until its fully charged again.

Batteries might have come a long way in the past couple years...but once it's dead, it still takes time to recharge them. Time I usually don't have to waste while working on a project.

Then, the more and more cycles you put it through, the shorter and shorter the run time becomes over the years.

AAA and AA (and any other replaceable battery) will always by my first choice. When the light dies, I can be back to a 100% useable flashlight again in 15-20 seconds.

JMHO ;)

Yup.

Not to mention you can often get an adapter (<$2) so the 18650 torch can run off 3-AAA batteries if/when you need it to. Or simply spend $8 and get 2 of the ones shown above so you'll always have a spare :)

Absolute best bang for the buck for me ever was this one:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00112HSE2/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I didn't have to order mine, as it was hanging on the rack at Meijers for 24 bucks. Super bright at 180 lumens, it's been all I need for a few years now. I'm thinking I'll get a couple more before they come to their senses and jack the price up.

Got one of these too, if you're looking for the old standard 2D size as some are. Pretty rugged, very bright, even cheaper:

I have Streamlights, Surefire, Coast, and another I can't recall the name of. They're all pretty good honestly. I lost favor with Streamlight after I fired one up for the first time and the batteries died (provided by Streamlight) died within minutes. The Surefire (an older one I will admit) works well although it does eat the batteries and they aren't cheap, yet. My favorite are the Coast brand lights. I believe made in the USA for those who care. Rugged and have been very reliable, easy on the batteries, etc....
Cheers,
