ran out today and picked up my first sure fire flash light after reading this thread. My god it's a good light. Thanks guys.

SF are very addictive! Good thing I get a huge discount....otherwise It would break me. When I was living in AZ, a friend worked at Peak Beam....gave me his Christmas "bonus"....Now called the Maxi Beam. Love it!!!! Just a little to large to use everyday. :bounce: Definitely not my EDC. I use my E2DL as my EDC. But I find myself grabbing one of my Dorcy Jrs more and more. Handy how small and bright they are. I use them for my laser builds a lot. One day I found them on clearance at my local target store for less than $5 each....regular price is $21.

This is my Surefire G2 LED.......I couldn't be happier with this thing. It's extremely bright, small and lightweight, tough as nails, and lasts a long time. I end up holding the light with my mouth all the time too and the material it's made of is pretty soft, won't hurt the old teeth!

I guess the batteries (CR123's) are very expensive but its worth it. Luckily my company provides me with batteries.

The perfect flashlight I think anyways.

Here's my recent buy, a Zebralight H30:

unpacked.jpg

It gives a 80 degree even flood, great for task lighting and can be used as a headlamp handheld, or clipped to shirt pocket. It's tiny at 1 inch diameter and 2.2 inches long with 3 brightness settings. It uses a single CR123 battery ($), so I a bought a set of rechargeables for it.

Beamshot (from http://superfonarik.ru/article_info.php?articles_id=11 ; lots of other models too!)

I understand Zebralights are popular with commercial aviation mechanics who work the night shift.

Alright you guys seem to know a lot about flashlights. Perhaps I could ask advice in this thread.

I have a fenix and it's pretty good...But I hate the different modes, it always ends up blinking when I wish it was just on and in the brightest mode.

I really just want it to turn on and be bright. That's it, and maybe have a really even beam pattern with no gnarly spot in the middle.

Do I want a Surefire?:headscrat I was looking at this: http://www.knifeworks.com/surefire6pleddefender.aspx

I would prefer AA's but if I have to go with the 123's I will. Thanks all.

For all you guys with lights that use 123s you can pick up rechargeables at frys electronics...(if you have one close to you). Or you can get some on the cheap from dealextreme.com

Cant go wrong with SFs...any of the 6P line up is a good first time SF. If you can get the LED version, DO IT! I have incandescent & LED versions of the 6P, 9P (w/ a P60L drop in), and the E2D...each LED version blows the incandescent version out of the water..the beam is much brighter, the color is better, and the run time is longer. IMO
Why would you rather go with a 1.5v battery opposed to a 3v? You simply wont get the lumens out of 1.5v batteries. I know the 123s are more expensive...but you can get rechargeable.

mkdive,

What is the COO of the SF Saint headlamp? Any good? I have a Princeton Tec headlamp but it won't stay in place & falls down.

I have the 10X Dominator but want an EDC as well so your suggestions above will help.

All SF lights are made in USA, with the exception of the emmiter (led) itself. Everything else is made here.

Wasn't there one made in Asia by another company and rebranded? I read about it on CPF years ago.

Haven't heard that one first hand (I did read that on CPF). I even asked around today at work..so I could answer the above question & give the most up to date answer possible.

But I will ask Monday, about the re branded light....to get a straight answer one way or the other.

what the hell do you guys need so many flashlights for??? seriously

I mean really, I have 2 stingers (1 in shop, 1 in garage) and 5 cheapy husky LEDs floating around the house, and 1 in every glove box and 1 really cheap LED in each tool box.........

I guess I have it too, never really counted up all the flashlights before, I hate having to walk and get a flashlight, so theres always one within arms reach.

I really like the stingers though, Its a tough SOB.

i keep a 2 cell maglite in the wifes car, in my truck and another one in my service truck.
at work i keep a small LED light in my pants pocket all the time, and a have a couple small LED lights around the house.
my work lite is an el cheapo AAA bat size, that way if i smash it, or loose it im not out a bunch of cash. i abuse my flashlights, more than one has found it's way into an oil drain pan, or crushed under the cab of a machine.

If you compare a Fenix E20 (https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=498)

to a Surefire A2 (http://www.surefire.com/A2-LED-Aviator)

The Fenix light uses two AA's and produces 109 lumens and the Surefire produces 120 lumens with two CR123's.

Prices: Fenix: 38.00, Surefire 239.00.

I have been replacing all my lights with Fenix lights, even the Taclight on my shotgun.

I have a early Fenix AA light and it's pretty good. Puts out a lot for one AA lithium battery. On the other hand, Fenix is Chinese knock offs correct? I just looked at their line and it's like they copy everything.

I have never paid retail for anything SF. I get quite a discount so...my money goes there.

One in each car (7), one in each gun fanny pack (3), one in my briefcase, one in the nightstand, one in the kitchen, and one in each shop, and one on the shotgun. So 16 for me. Most are cheap - mini mags or cheap LED's, but the shotgun light and the briefcase lights are nicer.

  1. First (you didn't hear me say this) but you shouldn't being paying more than $140 for the A2LED.
  2. The A2L and the Fenix E20 are not fair comparisons? The A2Led is dual output with option for secondary light emitters in different colors? The A2 has a runtime of 2/15 hours. The E20 is 3.3 hours.
  3. Build quality is good on the fenix. (don't get me wrong its a great light) But it doesn't have the build quality of SF.
  4. For a light to light comparison you should be comparing the E20 against the SF LX2 (200/30 lumen & 2/30 hour runtime). Yes it is more expensive than the E20...but even on this light you should be able to find one for $100-$125
If price is #1 deciding factor, by an Ultrafire WF-016 with a ssc-p7 emmiter. Less than $40. Throws 220+lumens. Great runtime (3+ hours). Has a strike bezel. And a 5 mode clicky.

Biggest reason??? SF is made right here in the USA...and Fenix...well we all know where they come from. :wtf:

That's what I was thinking....the bad guy doesn't even get to hear the pump cycle (like my mossberg)....just the boom! Freaking awesome home defense scatter gun

Mossberg 930SPX - I have a few pumps and even an old bolt action goose gun but this is my first semi auto shotgun.

20 Gauge Winchester Defender is my snake removal tool in the big garage.

Hmmm not sure...the M4 above (not mine) can throw 350 lumens?

Ill have to get a picture of my maxabeam on here, its a flashlight on roids. A true 12million candlepower HID light....need to get a friend to test the light for a lumen output, the manufacture doesn't give lumen output out on their specs.

WTF!! Why do you need a flashlite on a gun? Military I can see, maybe, doesn't it just pinpoint a target for the bad guy? You can't hunt at night, and for that intruder in your house at night why not just turn on the lights and then shoot him, and how many intruders have you shot useing your gun mounted flashlight. How many intruders did you miss cause you didn't have the flashlight on your gun? How many intruders have you shot? Thats just way over the top IMO.

When I kill snakes I do it the manly way, with a 2 foot cutlass, I don't hide behind buckshot, 2 Bushmasters in the last ten days, a 4.5 footer and a 7 footer, the big one was scary but it was first thing in the morning so he was cold @ about 75* F. so very slow moving, also wacked over 40 Fer de Lance all with a cutlass. You don't need a gun, you need balls. & & ) on the Bushmasters and 40 & 1 on the FdL, Carpet Labarios. I don't hunt them but if I see them then they die.

Maybe you don't need one, but I did - once. That was enough for me to put one on there. I had to shoot a critter at night (copperhead) and I would much rather shoot with a long gun than a handgun, and there is no way to handle a long gun and light if it is not mounted.

Like I said, maybe it's over the top for you but it's not for me. I live in the country. Neighbors of mine have had to kill coyotes, snakes, and sometimes even (livestock killing) dogs.
