no offense but do you actually use those:headscrat

Those are modded lights that I actually sell on the side and mod just for fun. It is a demonstration case with examples of some of my work.

I have multiples of each one of the lights in the case....that I use. I have a ton of lights, but only use a handful for EDC. I work for a well known light manufacture. For many reasons I will not disclose the name.... I have before on other forums and was overwhelmed with PMs. :wtf:

mkdive, that Ultralight packs some serious punch for a $30 light. And I also enjoy the fact it doesn't run off of 123's. Those tend to get expensive. I have a Surefire and a Brinkman that run off of them, while the small size of the lights are nice, it is hard to buy a pack of 123's and not feel guilty about it.

Those would be perfect to carry around in the tractors during busy season. At $30, if something serious happened to them I wouldn't feel like someone kicked me in the stomach.

Thanks for the opinions

Im not knocking 123s. They are a great 3v battery. I agree on the cost vs runtime can get costly over some time. But don't forget you can get rechargeable 123s! I have been running some in my lights for a long time. They work great. If you have a frys electronics near you, they sell a pack of two 123 cells, and a charger for less than $25. Also if you order that light from deal extreme....they also sell many different 123s (ranging mAh's) and chargers.
Disclaimer on dealextreme. Its all out of china. They aren't the fastest shippers. But on the flip side.... I have bought a lot of items from them with zero problems.

My old company started to manufactur flashlights. They were are proably the best light on the market. They are called lens light made by chapman/Leonard. The idea is they have two lenses that you can focus the light. Really quite amazingly bright. Downside wasthe cost excess of $100.00. All techs were given one, but I ended up with four different models.

maglites are such outdated dinosaurs. i truely feel bad for anyone who still uses them, unless they are using them to drive nails or fence posts.

Im not sure I agree. With a drop in LED the are not all that bad. With the standard incandescent bulb they are lacking (no argument there).

Maglite strong points that very few companies can contend with are the housing (flashlight body), finishes available (tons of colors), and machining is right up there with some of the best. For the longest time the maglites achilles heel was the bulb. Now you can spend $20 and drop in a HUGE upgrade...or mod you own....and have a really top notch light for a cheap price. Lots of flashaholics have at least a couple maglites they have modded. Heck here is a link to a modded 600 lumen thrower, that can burn a wad of newspaper almost instantly from the beam. Too many lumens for me.

I like mine because it is bright, tough and cheap. If i bought a $90 flashlight i would probably lose it or break it.

If you feel so bad, do you want to buy me a expencive flashlight that uses hard to find and expencive batterys?

IMHO, they are THE best bang for the buck LED flashlights. $30 for a full size(3-D cell) and a pocket(2 AA) with batteries included at Costco.

You fully click once for "on" then lightly depress tail clicky for the different modes. Then fully click for "off".

Modes:
Click full = ON (full output)
Light depress 1 = (med output)
Light depress 2= (low output)
Light depress 3= (fast strobe)
Light depress 4= (slow flash in SOS pattern).
Click full = Off

shakasmile.gif

Awesome, thanks for info. I was worried that you had to click it multiple times to get the full output. That would ****. Now, I have to find a way to justify buying one.

I was just thinking, is the battery and charger sold separately?

onyl good use for my maglite was to finish killing the deer that trashed my new paint job on a truck i used to have. that was after I hit him I backed up and ran over him twice then after he got up I took the 4dcell maglite to him. That was 2am and I went to the local 7-11 store where all my cop buddies hung out at. I didnt realize I had small blood spots all over me and they started to get worried that I had done something bad until they saw my truck.
grill
head lights turn signal bumper 1/4 panel rim mirror drivers door bottom of the ex cab and all down the bed.
the deer cart wheeled down my truck.
I was so mad until i realized what comprehensive coverage was for. then I felt a little better

i'm not talking about a modded host light.

i've been on CPF since 2001. you're not showing me anything that i haven't seen or used. i've had several modded mags in the past. i'm talking about an every day general use light for the casual user. for the same price you can get something 1/10th the size with several modes, but you know this.

Can you point out a couple for us non-flashlight guys? I still love my mag-lites best, but I also can't see spending a lot of money on a flash light.

I bet you guys sell alot of these in San Fransisco.

Not sure, I don't work for maglite. Im just showing examples of what you can do & what has been done to some of their lights. I have a couple of their lights, nothing exotic like in the pictures.....just a drop in. I prefer a smaller lite.

Our primary work lights are the Milwaukee that use our battery drill batteries, I like them because the head pivots and they sit by themselves, dont have to be frugal with batteries.

I was referring to that 1000 lumen ostar led light. The last thread activity on it was well over a year ago and he has a current thread opened selling what appears to he the parts he was using to make them. I would love a light like that.

As a result of this thread, I've started focusing on finding a nice new flashlight. The problem is that I get almost dizzy looking through all of the different flashlights for sale online. For a novice like me, they all start looking the same and most get mixed reviews.

I'm looking for a light similar to the Ultrafire that mkdive has, except that I want one that has a tail clicky with a setting where you can turn it on momentarilly, if that makes sense. You know, you can lightly press it and it will turn on but will not stay on.

The Ultrafire will do what you need in the above post....just push the tail clicky in slightly (not fully clicked on). I just like that light because of the price, and the somewhat amazing bang for the buck it gives. If quality is your #1 goal...and you don't mind spend a lot more....check out the E2DL, or my other favorite...the U2Ultra....SF of course.

Ohhhh, very interesting. I didn't know that it would do that. Thanks for clarifying that for me. BTW, I'd love a SF, believe me, but my wife is already going to flip if she finds out I spent $30+ for a flashlight. :)

I have several of the HF LED flash lights. For free, the price is right! All still work. I print out a new coupon and get one each time I stop by the store.

Have a few other larger ones. Also a hand crank LED light, and one that you shake up. Nice to have those if theres an emergency and you don't have any batteries. The light from them is pretty weak though.

Will never spend a lot of $$ on a flashlight. They'll just get beat up or lost eventually.

Got a nice Energizer at Target the other day the does what you want for $16.00. It is a one watt, one AA battery, super heavy duty aluminum case. Model # is MLT1WAAE. Here is a link to it but it's less expensive at your local Target store.

I was thinking about all of this.....for a cheaper price than the lights I listed. Anyone ever try Dorcy JR's? For those of you that may build lasers you know this is one of the most used hosts...(flashlights gutted and stripped to use the body for the laser build). But in its original form as a flashlight. Its a pretty nice little light. Its a 1W 45lumen light. Uses a 123 (included). You can find them in your local target/walmart. They are usually $20-$25. I found some a year or so ago on clearance for $5.18 each. So I bought the store out. I uses them all the time for laser hosts. But I keep 2 of them just as flashlights. In the pelican picture I posted they are the all silver lights on the right hand side of the case.

Here is some pictures of the lights in the bubble package.
