Flashlights

What do you guys recommend for a reliable flashight to be left in a car doorwell for the Mrs ?? This may rarely be used but needs to be reliable do the job when required e.g. on a dark winter night with a flat tyre or the like.

If I am changing a tire in the dark, i would like a LED lantern or headlamp so I do not have to worry about how to point the flashlight where I am working.

Ah yes, i carry the Dewalt 18v light which is great. But bear in mind this is for the Mrs's car and the process would go something like this;

1/break down,
2/uses torch to id flat tyre
3/call hubby
4/hubby arrives
5/hubby changes tire and wifey holds torch

Pelican 2AA light with Energizer Lithium AA cells. The lithiums are noted for their reliability. Note, I'm taking about Lithium non-rechargebles, not Li-ion. Really, any number of 2AA lights would work nicely.

For a handheld I like the Raovac industrial flashlights. Nothing fancy, just a basic flashlight. Mine are an older version which can also be used as a continuity tester.

I live and die by flashlights due to my work, they are "required" to be intrinsically safe with either UL or MSHA ratings for Class 1 Div 2 minimum. Now, 90% of the time I am working under a hot work permit and confined space entry permit with a 4 gas monitor connected to my person somewhere, which all means I don't give two shits about if my lights are intrinsically safe unless I'm working in an IDLH atmosphere.

With that said, my daily use light is a Fenix w/ rechargable 18650 cells.
My backup is a Streamlight Microstream 1x AAA cell.
Main work light is a Pelican Kinglite 4000 8x D cells.
In my pelican work case I have two UK4AA lights, and 2 Pelican Sabrelite 2000 LED's.
In the pickup I have a Princeton Tec League II and a Princeton Tec Torrent LED.


For a pen light, it is really hard to beat any of the AAA cell Streamlights for how cheap they are. I consider them a consumable item and throw them in the trash regularly, or hand them off to other employees that are cheaper about them than I am.

Unless I missed it theres not one mention of FourSevens? They were recently bought out by Prometheus Lights (Not too familiar) Anyhow, I have a FourSevens Malestrom Regen MMRX. The run time is ridiculous. And it's rechargeable. I hope the new company will continue to make them.

Also I have some of their Mini's. Three different brightness levels, strobe SOS and a Beacon function that flashes the light once every 30 seconds. The run time is also ridiculous for one CR123. They are very light and not too tiny.
