47" wide X 53" high X 36" deep... 15 doors $275

I would love to pick this up for the home shop. Price looks good to me but i've never really seen any others for sale around here.

I would use it for some tools (screw drivers, bits, chisels, wrenches ect), my layout tools, and other random stuff. I'm a wood worker so I don't have alot of really heavy items. Should i pick this up for $275?

Depends is it metal ? Do the drawers all move well ?If so 200 is a better price if it is wood I would not give more then 125 to 150 for it depending on the wood.

Ruthless: if it fits your needs that isn't a bad price. i sold one of these for $200 and wish i hadn't because i could still use it. i still have 3 and of them so don't feel too bad for me and i probably just need to reduce some of my stuff.

my little Cole is a lot smaller than that cabinet you are looking at. BTW are you able to move it because i'm betting it's in the 300-500 pound range unless you can move it in sections.

you might want to put your location in your profile if only a state so you can get better answers.

Looks like its an old map cabinet. I'd pay $200 for it especially if its metal. Just think how much you would pay for a tool box that size. Its rather large. You can paint it what ever color you want and there's still room on top for another box, bar fridge, etc.

Go for it!!!!

Edited my info.

Moving it will not be a problem. Got several employees that can help me with that and a trailer that will be easy to load. He has 3 other smaller ones I can look at if the drawers don't slide well on this one. Think Im going to head out and give her a look. Will post pics if I end up buy it. Thanks.

The 15 drawer flat file is actually (3) 5 drawer files bolted together along the front edge...when you remove the drawers you can easily get to the bolts to make moving much easier. Then there is a base and top piece also....all removable.

Yes, if you have the space. That is alot of storage space, but the 36" depth is pretty difficult for most people. I walked away from a 3 stack like that a few years ago. It would have been awesome storage, but the 40" depth would have been ridiculous in a single stall garage. Plus transportation was an issue for me.

I've been looking for this type of cabinet for quite some time and haven't even found many for purchase, let alone at that price. I'd snap it up in second.

Think you need to grab both big one and small white one. Negotiate a 2-for-1 deal price and you'll be in storage heaven !!

Short one could slide under old-style metal desk or similar bench setup.

Seems high to me.
But then I am used to school auction costs.
To move take the drawers out.
That makes a big difference.

36" is kind of deep but if you have the space, the price is RIGHT! I have a 30" deep built into my lathe bench and it's loaded with heavy metal lathe tooling.

Those can handle full drawers of D size engineering paper. Very likely more than one layer of tools. If you packed it to the brim with 1/4-20 nuts you'd be in trouble. I don't know the value but the application specific demand is long gone. They've been being phased out since CAD.

Well I bought the big one. Got back and proceeded to take EVERYTHING out of the garage and start the "reorganization" process. Hopefully one day I will figure out how my ADD brain can actually keep things organized.

I went in with full intentions of getting the smaller one as well but there was a lot of side to side slop in the drawers of it and with the size of the big one I really don't need to take up more room with a cabinet that wasn't in as good of shape. I really didn't have enough room for the other big one. This thing is built like a tank and 13 of the 15 drawers have a leather liner already installed.

I'm a former college OL and my best friend was a Defensive lineman and the strongest person I've ever met and it was everything we had to get it in the garage. Could've called a couple of my employees or my brother in law but I thought we could do it and we did with a couple coors light to get our heads in the right spot. Couldn't be happened with it for the money.

Good score, you will enjoy the mega storage you'll get in that small amount of floor space!

Ruthless: it looks like it found a good spot in your shop. didn't i tell you that cabinet was heavy? what do you think maybe 500-700 pounds or a bit lighter?

i remember having to take out a full size Nautilus old school smith machine out of a gym in one piece because we didn't know how to take it apart. it must have weighed close to 500 pounds so i called one of my clients that can squat 800 pounds and honestly it was like i didn't have any weight when we loaded it up on his 1 ton pickup and dropped it off at my house. it pays to have good and strong friends.

congrats on your new cabinet. packing the drawers might take you some time to get it write so get a marking pen with blue tape to mark what you have in the drawers until you do something a little more permanent.

cheers

Are the other ones still available? And in the Houston area? :D

I would say closer to 700 than 500. 2 average joe guys would've been visiting a hernia doctor. After the first attempt he said screw this I'm going home to get my tractor. I was ready to be done so I convinced him (I'm the smarter of the two...also why I played offense and he played defense) and we made it work.

I sent you a PM with the contact info.

Those don't seem to show up around here, atleast I can never find them. I guess when they show up as a rarity, you gotta pay the asking price or somewhat close.

What I saw was a type of medical cabinet... A flat file would be used for blue prints etc.
I am in the office furniture business and you will find that kinda stuff at an auction, craigs list etc.... I had to buy a 10 dr. vertical file for nuts bolts etc in my truck from a NYS surplus auction site... Ironic as it may be, but companies don't make that stuff anymore..
The older the cabinet the neater the combination of drawers and doors are in a single cabinet......I paid $25.00 for the cabinet

For the massive storage space you're getting, that is a screaming deal.

Congrats on scoring that beast. Rotated the pic for ya !! ;)

If you ever find one of these, buy it. This one came from a local hospital, to me through the Goodwill store, $25. Holds about a ton, full extension drawers...I wish I could find 2 more.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread and putting flat file cabinets back on my radar. I was searching the local Craigslist this afternoon with no luck, when, no kidding, I refreshed the page and a brand new ad for 2 flat file cabinets showed up. Each cabinet has 6 drawers and each measures 26" deep x 42" wide x 21" tall. Drawers are 2" deep. No legs or top but that's perfect for me because I will most likely incorporate them into a workbench. If not, it'd be pretty easy to make a base and top out of wood. Both were in excellent condition and I got them for $50 each.

Wow, these things are heavy! I had to remove the drawers to make it a one man job.

$50 each for that kind of storage is sweet deal. Also the 26" depth is just right.

Wow, congrats. Those are about ideal size and price for most home users.

I couldn't believe the size and can't beat the price. All the flat files I've seen before were around the size of what the OP obtained. These are absolutely perfect size.

YOU ****!!

Thank you. Thank you very much. (said in my best Elvis voice)
