i am interested in using this style of file cabinet for nuts and bolts and was wondering if anyone has a picture or two of how they divided up the big space in each drawer? it appears that some tools would fit in the drawers also, they are 3.5" approx. good idea?? thanks

Cut the bottoms off of quart oil containers and put them in there. You could also buy a bunch of cheap food storage containers from the dollar store to use. Or make dividers out of strips of thin plywood or Masonite.

The only thing I use my three stacked blueprint file cabinets for is blue prints and my large knife collection.
For my several thousand pieces of fasteners I use both the small plastic cabinets with 18 or more drawers, and I use a larger commercial steel rack with pull out heavy plastic bins to hold the larger stuff up to 1/2" dia. x 3.5" long hex bolts and other misc. I finally got fed up with running to the hardware store several times a week for a few measly nuts and bolts, that I put in a healthy supply of all types of fasteners I used on a regular basis. The initial outlay was a bunch but have no regrets after using my system for over three decades.

I use cigar boxes with the lids removed in some of the drawers, and for small items I repurposed plastic bins from some old sets of parts bins. <br />

Jump on them while you can Steve, then after you get them home search here for keywords in your thread title and gawk at people's setups.... I incorporated one into a lathe bench at my old shop but now I have more room and wish I had a stack of them!

Go to restore and get an old wooden window blind, remove the slats and run them through a table saw and interlace them together in what ever size you want, cheap and easy...Rich
