Never really knew these existed until watching a YouTube video the other day. Now I need one. Seems like my choice is metabo or dewalt. Are there any other options? Anyone have experience with these two? I’m surprised more companies don’t make these

I've got a Metabo from AWD and absolutely love it. I don't use it as a primary grinder and right now it's fitted with a rubber backer and sanding disc, but it's one of those when you need it..... tools

That model is still made in Germany afaik

German made Metabo is considered industry standard in grinders, Dewalt not so much.

i found this video. i like the metabo for sure (german version) . the makita seems like maybe a imposter. the ones i seen are more green (older european made version) but he has brighter blue. he says the HF is garbage.

I’m not gonna try to compare the cheap 6 amp harbor freight 10 buck grinders to any name brand tool but having said that... I bought 2 just to completely abuse them... they clearly state they are not to be used with cut off wheels and that is all I use them for. I have repeatedly used them until they were so hot you couldn’t touch the housing... and they do not quit. I’ve had them for over two years now and for twenty bucks for two... I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone wanting a small grinder you can beat up and keep going.

The cheap hf grinders are great for $10 each. This thread is about flat head angle grinders not regular 4” grinders though.

Simply stating coo isnt enough to say something is better. Good stuff and **** comes out of every country
Agreed, but if you know anything about grinders then you know German made Metabo is one of the best if not the best grinders on the market.

It's not the coo that necessarily is indicating the quality, it's that era of tools that have be proven to be reliable, robust, and thoroughly dissected and deemed high build quality.

Coo Germany is a easy way to note that era.

I'm an ironworker. After years of experience we have some pet names for our tools. We call 9 inch rebar pliers "Kleins". We call 7" diagonal cutters "dykes". We call out "Metabo" when we want a grinder.

PS, I'm one of the foremen and have 2 each of 4 1/2, 6, and 9 inch Metabos in my work truck's utility bed. We beat the hell out of them and still average 5 years of use out of each of them.
