I stopped by HD yesterday and they have a new product display for these flat panel LED fixtures. 1'x1', 2'x2', 1'x2', a standard rectangular kitchen fixture (didn't get the size 15"x48" ?) 11" diameter, and 15" diameter. They're all about 7/8" thick.

I initially thought this would be great for my shop. I have a low ceiling and concerned about hitting a standard T8 fixture. One of the current T12s is already broken. But I think it would be they would be over 2x the compared to resessed T8 fixtures. The 2'x2' is $100. Thought I'd share.

Good to see they are showing up in stores now. I bought a 24" X 48" Commercial Electric LED to replace a kitchen fluorescent @ $179 from HD online. I don't believe we can expect similar energy savings from the flat panels as you might expect going from fluorescent to other LED bulbs but at least it's headed the right direction getting more products to market.

I have one of the 2' X 2' in a room in my basement. It has a drop ceiling that is hung very close to the floor joists less that 2". This light worked great to slip in there and set on the grid and gives off a pretty good amount of light.

I believe the CE from HD are dimmable but I do not have mine on a dimmer...

Ive seen these with external drivers for 20$ and SMD LED's. Have to hide the driver but worth the 40$ savings in my opinion. Drill a small hole in the ceiling and put the driver above. I'm just looking around for anyone who has used them (which is how I landed here).

Choose warm or cool Flat Light solutions. Warm lighting yields the comfortable feeling that homeowners have come to expect. Bright or daylight Flat Lights create a contemporary work environment that is well-lighted and improves effective production. You can find flat panel leds light from Pixi Lighting.

Do you have a link to the ones you're talking about?

I have one 12x12" version of the ones the OP posted in my family room and its too damn bright. It is on a dimmer but the color irritates my eyes when I'm relaxing on the computer and watching TV. The physical configuration is perfect but I want one in the 3000k color range.

I was hoping this could replace a couple of 4 foot flush mount T12.
Does anyone know if the old fixtures electrical box comes into the fluorescent at the center too?

They look like solar tubes and looks high tech but the install seems like a pain. Having to install a lot of toggle bolts for the base plate (meaning a lot of 3/8 holes in the ceiling )

Really?? How would you mount traditional fixtures...? 2 sided tape?! No matter what fixture, you're going to have holes that no one will see
