Adding a garage to the house. The garage and house roofs are about the same height and pitch in the same direction but the garage is set back from the front of the house. That creates a small flat valley where the two intersect. Is this going to be a problem? Do they make a special flashing for this?

Are we talking about where the two shingled areas meet?
It looks to be short
A good roofer will put in over sized flashing.

Yep that the area we are talking about. It is short. If you account for the trim boards on both sides the valley is about a 12" long Is something like this standard or is it likely to be a problem and I should make an extra effort to get around it?

Anyone who really knows how to flash will have no problem with that. Ice shield under the flashing will seal the deal.
