Picked these up today. Not a great deal but for $27 I couldn't say no.

Congrats on your find! I saw the engineers working on a twin pawl cartridge for the S·K round-head ratchets, essentially doubling the teeth in the ratcheting mechanism. From what they tell me it'll be a direct replacement for the existing ones.

Mr.T that's a home run in my book! I definitely would have paid that and then some more. No worries, you can pick up the 5/8 and 3/4 knurled sockets on ebay to complete that set!

while that is interesting info and nice to hear. i hope they are working on something else as well. it would be great to see an all new ratchet. while they are at it. sharpen up the knurling so it is more like the old ratchets.

 to the above.

Leave the single pawl design alone. It has worked for 70+ years - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Come up with a new design in a ratchet, like those ratcheting wrenches with 6 pawls. :lol_hitti

That's great Eric, love the idea of saving the old ratchets. and not forcing us to buy new.

Will this make them stronger, ie like how a fine thread bolt holds stronger that a coarse thread bolt of the same diameter.

Or will it give a tighter swing, less degrees per click?

Let me be the first to say Mr. T you ****...

Thanks. That is officially my first since joining.

Did you get the metal case with that set? Or are you looking on eBay for one so you can keep everything together?

Haha. No case. I think these might go with me to work. In which case they'll go on socket rails.

Well, I don't know what you are used to paying for vintage S-K stuff :headscrat , but that is a heck of a good deal around here!

Around here if it isn't Snap-On, MAC, or Craftsman people think it's worthless. Everybody knows Starrett too but if they don't know what you use it for one can still get a pretty good deal. Which is pretty much everything except a Mic.

Those 42470 ratchets are everywhere. I have 3 already and have seen many, many more. They are somehow more common at yard sales than Craftsman RP's!

Hey Mr T, I have the same set with an extra 3/4. I'll send it to you if you want, no charge... I rather see it go to someone I know will appreciate vintage tools...

Hey those look awfully familiar. I'm missing the 1 3/16" and 1 1/4" sockets, but I do have the 18" breaker bar in my trunk if I ever need to change a flat.

That old breaker bar is my favorite and it's definitely built to last. One time I was taking off the hub nut on my car and I tried my Snap-on first with a 5ft cheater and it broke the Snap-on bar nearly instantly. So, I broke out my 40+ year old SK and it broke that hub nut loose no problem.
