Really up to you. I have long pattern non ratcheting, standard length ratcheting flex, and stubby non ratcheting. I'd like to have stubby flex head ratcheting and long pattern reversible ratcheting as well.

I have flex head, and reversible non flex.
I tend to reach for the flex most of the time.

Wait more good price. At canadian tire, I paid 29,99$ for set of flex head wrench and 34,99 for the normal racheting wrench. So, for 130$, I have SAE and metric set in normal and flex head.

Last time I bought that set there was no 17mm, or 19 mm.. But the set has 16 and 18. The only wrench I use out of the whole set is 13. Garbage! Where I work its 100% metric with most fasteners being 8,10,13,17,19.

I don't like the flex head as much as I expected to. Too much slop in the whole thing and it seems hard to get the wrench to take a good set to the fastener. I use my reversible set 99% of the time.

Standard head, if reversible.

I would be more concerned with the sizes in each set. Sometimes the sets skip common sizes.

I have both and don't like the flex, I would rather use the reversible. There may be sometime the flex would work better, but I haven't found it.

You can use flex more of the time but it just depends on what you like better

Why not get both??

Absolutely. You need both - long pattern box end (non ratcheting) for really cranking on things and flex ratcheting for those tough spot or for instances were clearance declines as the fastener moves out.

EDIT: I guess in this case it would be get all three: long pattern box end, standard ratcheting, and flex ratcheting. Cover all your bases.

Not sure why but I've never owned a set of flex head ratcheting wrenches. I have damn near every other style of wrench conceivable but never actually pulled the trigger on flex heads. Saying that have yet to find a fastener that I couldn't get out (or cut off lol) but being a non-pro, I have the luxury of time on my side that I can use to get around obstacles. No doubt flex heads make some jobs easier and faster. I have been looking hard at the long Matco ones and also other brands and will likely grab some if the price is right but for now i'm content with cursing and swearing at fasteners while using a non-flex wrench :)

I hate my flex set, I use my straight set exclusively. The flex set swivels when I don't want it to and slips, it's a knuckle buster.

I have a straight set with two flex heads to complete the missing ones. I dislike the flex because it's flimsy at times.

go with the straight. Unless to you really see yourself needing to use them on tight spots.
