I'm looking to build my box up little by little when I have extra cash. I currently use CMan impacts for removing lugs but am partial to the flip sockets I use at work from a co-workers box. The Cornwell set which is the most popular at my shop is about 70 bucks. However I was looking at other brands such as Ingersol Rand http://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-Rand-SK4C3F-3-Piece-Service/dp/B000HGKR5K/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1326135009&sr=1-1 and Astro Pneumatic http://www.amazon.com/Astro-Pneumatic-78803-Protective-Sleeves/dp/B000LQJDNS/ref=sr_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1326133466&sr=1-4http://. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? If I'm not mistaken is the Astro set made in Taiwan?

That is correct, that specific set is made in Taiwan.
We are also releasing individual ones.
Here is some info regarding these new flip sockets:

The flip sockets you really need if you work in the industry are the failed lug cap removers. They come in 18.5/19.5, 21/21.5 and 22/22.5 for Ford, Dodge and other lugnuts with chrome tin caps that have become loose, damaged, rounded or lost. You can get them from Snap-On and various import companies, the set will run you about $200 from SO or $45 imported. It saves a ton of time over using fluted lugnut extractors.

Oh god how I HATE those lug caps !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope the guy who invented them pees in his pants on the way to work tomorrow and every one laughs at him.

Do these sockets have a special name ? Would you have a part number or a link ?

Yeah n8n, that sounds like it will work OK and all, but flat rate is flat rate. I don't have time to mess around, I use the easiest and fastest tool available.

I hear you, I do it "occasionally" but I have it down now so I can peel one in a minute or less. Just need a BFH and an old flat blade screwdriver ground to the right shape.

What's bad is when you can feel one starting to get loose and you advise the owner that they ought to replace it (or them) and they think you're just trying to BS them into buying stuff they don't need... couple tire rotations later I bet they'll forget that conversation :(

Whoever invented those things should be beaten about the head, what's wrong with traditional McGard style chrome plated acorns? The few that have failed on my Jeep I've replaced with those, I expect them to last the rest of the vehicle's life (just like every other non-abused lug nut, ever.)

The 18.5/19.5 I have is Astro #7401. The other two don't have a name on them. If you search eBay for "(18.5,19.5,21.5,22.5)+socket" you'll find what you want no problem. If you want Snap-On, I think a search for "lug" brings them up.

The Astro is on my wish list :)

I used a 12 point 3/4" socket to remove a failed lug cap on my '86 camaro.
Six point sockets would not fit over the swelled cap, but the 12 points did.

One thing though, a few weeks ago one of my apprentices found the #7401 socket doesn't fit into the wheels on some Ford Focus models. Stock aluminum wheels, not sure which but the 19.5 side was too large. If an extra thin wall were available, that would be great. Snap-On's didn't fit either.

The socket was too large on the outside and didn't fit into the broach in the wheel. I don't know how many stock wheels have small broaches but the problem with the lug nut caps is widespread enough I'm sure the need is there. I wound up using a biting-type lugnut extractor but I would have liked to be able to use the easier tool.

I'm wondering if any of these include what you need:

Don't think so. But if you pass my remarks on to engineering and you happen to make extra thin wall 18.5/19.5 and 21.5/22.5 flip sockets, you'll corner the market. Nobody makes extra thin wall half sizes.
