So I picked up some nice T8 fixtures off craigslist. They are 8' long 4 bulb set ups and I got 4 of them. I have a 20'x18' garage with 15' ceilings. My question is about hanging them.

I am pretty sure I am just going to run two lengthwise over each bay (16'). Right now I only have two 60 watt bulbs so anything is a GREAT improvement. I am going to be painting the ceiling soon and I was wondering would it be a little less "harsh" lighting to paint the ceiling a gloss and flip the fixtures upside down so the bulbs are firing toward the ceiling and not the floor? Or would that lead to a loss of lighting and defeat the usefulness of the new lights. I am just trying to avoid having a nice garage with wicked harsh lighting.

What are your thoughts.

I'd go with two more over each bay. Running them straight down the middle will leave you with shadows when there's a vehicle parked and you're trying to work off to the side.
